Competent, but Boring
hermesv-417407 October 2019
This episode has the usual Family Guy formula: Start episode with a plot that ends up contributing nothing and abandoned by minute 8 and then start the real episode with a boring mess of cutaways and dad jokes. This episode is very derivative of last season's "No Giggity, No Doubt" with Brian filling in the role of obnoxious dad stereotypes. However, this episode is not as insufferable as that episode. It also seems, as with last week's premiere, that Family Guy has no idea how to write a decent ending opting instead to just end episodes randomly. What the hell was that ending?!?!

Not good at all!!!
scassell-423007 October 2019
What happened to Family Guy? Do you remember when this show was crude and would make fun of everything? Now, it makes fun of what normal people in today's society find to be normal and accepts what is not the common practice. I'm glad South Park still gets it, even though they've become more relaxed over the years, too. It's no wonder that the first two episodes of this season have a 5/10 star rating.

What's with the ratings?
chrisdiamantis8 October 2019
What is going on with the two latest episode ratings? The first two episodes were both above average but people rate them below 6. I've watched a lot worse episodes in the previous season, that had higher rating. That's the typical family guy humour that we are here for and it makes no sense to me that show fans didn't like it

Feels like a hollow shell of what Family Guy used to be...
acrazey578 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The first episode of season 18 felt very much like a cop out. The ending hacks away the story so lazily and it feels like a waste of time.

I was willing to give this season another chance but this second episode has been another disappointment.

The body cam story, the joining of Brian and Ida feel so forced and shoehorned via Seth McFarlane. Brian appears especially unrecognizable up until the showdown between himself and Quagmire. Also, Quagmire spends way too much of the episode coming down on Brian and at this point, his classic persona that has made him so entertaining in the past is lost. The dialogue is heavily weighed on McFarlane in the majority of scenes and even that feels obvious and obnoxious. Another episode of potential, perhaps Ida was the partner Brian had always been looking for. Yet the episode chops that idea to crap as Ida kowtows her son's whining (Again, Quagmire has become so unlikable!). It's another waste of time, no character development and no good humor to make your time spent worth it.

I think I'll be sticking to American Dad for a while. I'm actually rooting for American Dad to outlive Family Guy. I really want to grab Seth McFarlane by the face and tell him "YOU DID THIS! YOU MADE THIS TERRIBLE! I'M GOING TO PRESS MY SWEATY RAGE FILLED HANDS INTO YOUR SELF SATISFIED FACE UNTIL I'M NOT ANGRY ANYMORE"

A lot funnier than the premiere, even though it does have its problems

Warning: Spoilers
After meeting her at the bar, Brian starts to realize he actually likes Ida and starts dating her. But Quagmire's not too happy about it. Peter, Joe, Quagmire and Cleveland strap on bodycams to capture their million-dollar ideas they come up with while drunk.

This episode is sort of a follow-up to the controversial Quagmire's Dad, addressing how awkward it's been between Brian and Ida since they slept together. I really liked this idea. I thought the funniest part was when Brian is so scared of anyone finding out they are dating that he takes her to space, just to have to push her away when a spaceship opposite of him is sighted. Generally, although Brian's sceptical of telling anyone at first, the scenes between them are cute. I think they could have gotten some mileage out of developing their relationship in more episodes. The Brian & Quagmire conflict I was a bit worried about, but I did laugh at Quagmire ranting about Night At The Museum, just because he talked about it like it was a huge Oscar winner.

The cutaways were all onpoint. The aforementioned space one, Waldo being found dead, Joe discovering the mean billboards (like in that Frances McDormand-led movie) and best of all, Peter as a mad scientist at work all made me chuckle.

As for the bodycam plot, the truck commercial was amusing (if a little overlong) and the stupid ideas Peter and the guys came up with were funny. I would liked if they included more of them, but what we got was still solid enough.

So the jokes are mostly good, and Brian and Ida dating is a nice idea, but there's one big detractor which at times hinders me from enjoying the episode. And that's Quagmire. While I'm used to his weird grudge with Brian seemingly never going away, I thought he was more annoying than usual this time. Ida urged him to try and get along with Brian, and all he does is scream at him. And then at the end, when he's done trying to appease Ida's wishes he gives her an ultimatum: "It's either YOU or HIM." Ida chooses her son since she loves him too much, but I think this was entirely the wrong choice. I thought the point of him accepting Ida's decision to transition in season 8 would mean he respects her other life choices too, but apparently not. Or, if Quagmire doesn't wise up, Ida should at least stand up against him and tell him she can date whoever the hell she wants to. It's too bad they made Quagmire win since Brian was characterized pretty decently, clearly dating Ida because he likes her, not to spite his nemesis.

Despite that ending, I still found myself enjoying Bri-Da, simply because the jokes were very good. And although their relationship didn't last sadly, I liked the chemistry between Brian and Ida.

The worst Family Guy episode
bgcirstea7 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
...And I've seen them all. Multiple times!

This has to be the most pathetic episode in the history of FG, including the Meg or Chris ones. What happened?

You build up nicely with that crap with the cameras, which actually had potential, then simply trash it and move into a trans-gender themed pseudo-plot. Not once have I laughed, ONCE! The museum stuff, the breakfast and the football game scenes were all awful.

The only things that stood out was the spaceship and the reception guy at the museum. These are 2 things in a 30 minute episode! To top it all off, you end with that? It is purely a middle finger to the viewers, nothing more.

And to think I bought the trailer and though this season's gonna be good.

Am I watching the next episodes? I don't know.

Bri-Da

Warning: Spoilers
Family Guy has been doing ridiculous things in the first half and then something different in the second half of the episode for years now, but this took it to a new extreme. Neither of these premises deserved half an episode.

A few amusing lines, but wow this show is in a bad place right now.

Worst episode yet?!
rsvp3218 October 2019
I think it might be!

Wow, Seth - just wow. You've turned this show into an unfunny nothing.

Stewie is so boring, now - he's a whole new bland character.

Seth has abandoned FG for The Orville.

What the hell is going on. Its a mess again. Like the 1st episode. All over the place again. Plot is one thing. Plot is another thing. It's just a joke. And absolute joke. I'm so disappointed because I was such a huge fan of family guy....... WAS....

learn to appreciate
sokoldaniel7 October 2019
It was a fun, enjoyable, had plenty of comentery, the characters developed and serious when needed, and some laughs

I enjoyed it, 10 because I see no reason to cherry pick for flaws I didn't see, its family guy, if you like it, you know what are you in for.

it has lots of sarcasm and adult nuances that 14 year old viewers wont get though and might find the episode boring, because its more suddle and less bizzare.

Really transphobic stuff here.
jonahnathan1 November 2019
There was some extreme transphobic stuff here! I think most transgender people would be deeply offended. If these references and stereotypes would be erased from this episode, it would have a lot more success.

The scene where Peter came crying and interrupted Quagmire, Ida and Brian made me laugh with tears. Superb humour in this one.

Ida Davis and Brian Dating
vivianla6 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Didn't laugh too much while watching.

The wheelchair guy laughs like Dean - when he laughs his head shakes violently.

The guys wear police body cams to see what they do at night. They watch the videos when sober and see that they are at a bar. Women sit at the bar and are on the floor dancing.

Quagmire isn't there - he is with a girl in her underwear and he turns up so that the cam shows the ceiling's reflection. He is worried about the video being posted on the Internet.

Ida, his dad, is at the bar watching the video and the bartender tells her no porn at the bar. Ida says she is transgender so he says oh then you can do whatever you want.

Brian comes and Ida says sadly it is so hard. Brian says well yeah it has to be for sex. Ida says she meant how disappointing it is to see her son exposing himself.

Brian and Ida connect and they line up for a hotel room. Instead of leaving Brian asks Ida what she is doing Friday night.

Brian is awkward at the dinner and he confesses he is worried about telling his family and Quagmire.

Brian treats Quagmire like a little kid. Too juvenile despite Quagmire being older than most of the adults.

Quagmire talks with his mom and his mom says she will talk with Brian first. Ida gets down and tells Brian she has to care about her son first.
