Once a show becomes popular, there are many celebrities who want to be a part of the story and have a cameo. Quinta Brunson, the creator of The Abbott Elementary, once shared that she has a long list of people who have contacted her hoping to be involved in the story in some way.
Heartstopper, originally created by Alice Oseman as a graphic novel and then adapted into a series, is probably no exception. Judging by the story of Jonathan Bailey, who was extremely happy to get his guest role in the show, there must be a long line of celebrities who want to do the same.

Prestige indie banner See-Saw Films are lining up a biopic of Tenzing Norgay, the legendary Nepalese-Indian mountaineer who summited Mount Everest with Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953, becoming one of the first men to stand on the top of the world.
Variety has learned that “Tenzing” will star Tom Hiddleston as Hillary with Norgay’s casting yet to be unveiled. Willem Dafoe will also star in the film, which is being introduced to buyers at Cannes with Rocket Science launching sales.
The feature is being directed from Australian filmmaker Jennifer Peedon, who comes with some solid experience in the mountaineering field having helmed the 2015 documentary “Sherpa.” Fellow Australian Luke Davies wrote the script.
Having landed numerous awards for “The Power of the Dog,” See-Saw Films has been relatively quiet on the feature front recently, with its TV output — particularly its hits “Slow Horses” and “Heartstopper” — getting much of the attention. However,...

Exclusive: On the heels of her acclaimed directorial debut Passing, Rebecca Hall has found her next filmmaking vehicle in Four Days Like Sunday, a mother-daughter drama inspired by her own history, which she’s written to direct and will star in for See-Saw Films.
Set in the mid 1990s, the film follows 12-year-old Jane as she begins to rebel against her role as proxy-carer for her mother Sylvia (Hall), a recently divorced and ever so slightly fading Broadway diva. During a long weekend break between concert dates, Sylvia hosts Benton, Chris and Rahim, three male dancers from her current tour, at her anachronistically grand country house. She is also expecting the arrival of Dale, her handsome younger boyfriend. As Jane does her best to protect her mother from everything that threatens to disturb her delicate equilibrium, she moves quietly from childhood into something else-wiser, freer, and more alone.

Jonathan Bailey was so blown away by “Heartstopper” that he just knew he had to be on the show.
“Like so many people, I watched the first [season] and thought it was one of the biggest, most beautiful gifts to so many people, and I wish I had that growing up,” the “Fellow Travelers” and “Bridgerton” star told me at the Met Gala Monday night.
It was announced in late April that Bailey will make a cameo appearance as Jack Maddox, an Instagram-famous classicist and celebrity crush of Charlie (Joe Locke). “I had a mutual friend who knows [executive producer Patrick Walters] and I just said, ‘If there’s anything I could do to help and be a part of that story,’” Bailey recalled.
He said that the series, based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series of the same name, “really has changed the way people could grow and communicate around who they are.

We attended Sunday’s ceremony and managed to speak to a number of nominated artists, including Adiescar Chase, who serves as the composer for Netflix’s hit feel-good LGBTQ+ series “Heartstopper.” Chase explained to us how she created the iconic sound of “Heartstopper,” noting that her conversation with director Euros Lyn exemplified how she works on the show.
“The great thing about ‘Heartstopper’ is that, in season two, Euros asked that I make the music feel new, feel like it’s developing as we are with the characters. So, a lot of...

“We are not there to be the sex police. We actually want it to look really good and we’re very highly trained in how to do that” –Rebecca Johannsen, on the role of an intimacy coordinator
As the film community continues to process the fallout of the #MeToo movement and keeps growing in its awareness of the trauma caused by the mishandling of actors on set, a critical new production role has emerged: the intimacy coordinator (Ic). But while the role has been largely welcomed by the industry since it started appearing on call sheets in 2017 the job is still widely misunderstood.
To teach our community more about the value a skilled Ic can bring to a project, Film Independent Education’s Filmmaker Tuesdays invited intimacy coordinator Rebecca Johannsen–of Intimacy Professionals Association (Ipa)–to hold a group workshop around the topic on April 23 at Film Independent’s Wilshire Boulevard HQ.

Think about it: Can you name a recent series that gives off Dawson’s Creek, The O.C. or even Pretty Little Liars energy? Shows that offer incredible melodrama, characters you simultaneously love/can’t stand and baffling storytelling choices in a high school setting? Not considering the supernatural ones — if only because their scope tends to reach too far beyond high school — we can count this type of all-engrossing youth drama on one hand. The teen soap output from The CW, Freeform (née ABC Family) and MTV has become all but nonexistent.

Exclusive: Charithra Chandran, who broke out playing Edwina Sharma in Netflix’s smash regal series Bridgerton, has spoken out against an entertainment industry mentality that she feels pits people of color against each other.
Chandran, who was speaking to Deadline in the days before her debut West End play wraps, said she has “never pictured myself as a role model” but “a lot of young girls follow me on social media, so I do feel a sense of responsibility.”
Actors including Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel, Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Melissa Fumero and Aubrey Plaza have spoken out in the past about there being limited spaces for people of color in TV and movies.

Upon its release, the coming-of-age romantic dramedy received rave reviews for its unique queer love story. It ranked among the most-watched British titles on Netflix, pulling massive viewership numbers from countries like Saudi Arabia, Sir Lanka, and Lebanon, where same-sex relationships are illegal. Beyond avoiding an oversexualized depiction of LGBT people, Heartstopper’s appeal extends to its paced, heartwarming love story. For

Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor will make their Broadway debuts in a new production of Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet this fall.
The production will feature music by Grammy Award winner Jack Antonoff, who is also making his Broadway debut, movement by Sonya Tayeh (Moulin Rouge! The Musical) and direction by Sam Gold. Exact dates and a theater have yet to be announced, but tickets are set to go on sale in May.
While few details have been released about this version of the Shakespeare classic, the production is using the tagline “The Youth Are Fucked” and promises an angrier take on the tale.
“With the presidential election coming up in November, I felt like making a show this fall that celebrates youth and hope, and unleashes the anger young people feel about the world they are inheriting,” said Gold, who is helming this season’s An Enemy of the People.

Alex Garland may have said that he’s not planning to direct again in the foreseeable future, but he is currently directing another film while his movie Civil War heads out into the world and he works on the scripts for the upcoming 28 Years Later trilogy (a follow-up to his Danny Boyle collaboration 28 Days Later). Garland’s new directorial effort is called Warfare, and he’s co-directing it with Ray Mendoza, who served as the military supervisor for Civil War. Garland and Mendoza also wrote the screenplay together. As Warfare moves forward, Deadline has just revealed the names of several cast members: Noah Centineo (The Recruit), Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark), Taylor John Smith (Where the Crawdads Sing), Adain Bradley (Wrong Turn), Henrique Zaga (The Stand), and Evan Holtzman (Hidden Figures).

Dead Cat Film by writing/directing duo Josie Charles and Nathan Miller is a twisted, quirky dark comedy exploring the lengths we sometimes go to in order to avoid difficult, distasteful truths. The well-established collaborative team developed the script from a niggling little bud of a story which then bloomed into a fully blown cautionary tale of who you should, or perhaps shouldn’t, share your private space and pets with. Dead Cat Film is as weird as it is wonderful and it’s our pleasure to speak to Charles and Miller for the film’s premiere here on Dn about packing a tonne of variety into their snappy short, bringing actors Will Gao (Heartstopper) and Hugh Bonneville onboard...
