During his life, Hugh Hefner was a icon of American pop culture, a supporter of civil rights, an advocate and champion of the sexual revolution in the 1960s and an entrepreneurial success story.
While many recognize that his legacy -- for good and for bad -- is a complicated one, the Playboy founder was often a fount of positivity when it came to his outlook on life and his thoughts on emotional and professional success.
As a reflection on the publishing magnate's life and personal philosophy, we're looking back at some of his greatest quotes and pearls of wisdom from his many Et interviews over the past decades.

So, in the mood for another feature-length doc on the “mouse house”? I’m referring to Mickey’s home base, the cartoon factory that is the Walt Disney Studios. It’s comprehensive archives have provided terrific stories in recent years, all informative and very entertaining. Let’s see, there’s Walt & El Grupo, about the Ww II South American trip. And The Boys: The Sherman Brothers’ Story spotlighting that song-writing duo. Oh, and Waking Sleeping Beauty, which focuses on the late 1980’s revitalization of the feature animation department, is a must see. Only a few weeks ago, audiences were moved by the story of the Suskind family in Life, Animated. Now, here’s another terrific addition to that revered roster. The talented directing team of Michael Fiore and Erik Sharkley introduce us to a fascinating man well known to the world of cartooning, but now the general public will meet...

Terence Davies’ films deal with repressed desire, longing, and emotional pain that springs from the depths of his characters’ souls, and yet, in person, the great British auteur is undoubtedly the funniest person in the room. He is all smiles and jokes as we sit down to discuss his glorious Sunset Song, entering a limited release this week, and a retrospective of his work at the Museum of the Moving Image. It makes sense that he is joyful rather than somber, because it makes one feel a sort of relief knowing that levity was welcomed between takes on haunting dramas such as Distant Voices, Still Lives and The Deep Blue Sea. In Sunset Song, Davies takes on the first part of a trilogy written by Lewis Grassic Gibbons, in which we meet farm girl Chris Guthrie (a luminous Agyness Deyn) as she is forced to take on the reins of her life in pre-wwi Scotland.

Hayley Okines, dubbed by the media as the "100-year-old teenager" died Thursday. She was 17. Per the BBC, her mother Kerry announced the news in a Facebook post, writing, "My baby has gone somewhere better. She took her last breath in my arms at 9.39pm." Hayley, who had the rare premature aging disease Progeria, had been told she wouldn't live past the age of 13. She did, though, going on to write an autobiography at age 14 titled Young at Heart: The Likes and Life of a Teenager With Progeria. She was an advocate for raising awareness about the rare genetic condition, too, participating in several TV documentaries discussing the disease and later enrolling in a U.S.-based clinical drug trial. Young at Heart: Paltrow’s Sci-Fi Western is All Dried Up
Dystopic draught heralds the end of times for the parable that serves as Jake Paltrow’s sophomore effort, Young Ones. A mash-up of classic Western and ambitious sci-fi, the whole is not the sum of its parts, fluctuating between flashes of stylized visual flourishes in the midst of a quickly withering narrative, Paltrow seems to squander the abundant opportunities laid out by the promising set-up. It’s this kernel of potential that makes the film seem even more of a disappointment, methodically churning into a stagnant trench of recycled Greek tragedy themes, a familial saga of vengeance, murder, and inheritance never coalescing into a comfortable stride.
In a world gone dry, surviving members of the human race do the best they can to eke out an existence. The oceans having evaporated long ago, families of farmers do what...

I can’t say that a fashion documentary is entirely in my wheelhouse, which probably speaks to the power of Advanced Style, considering that I found it so very appealing. In many ways, fashion is more arbitrary than art, and what can be called great style is incredibly more individualistic than what people might call a good book, or movie, or TV show. What is good style? What does it mean to wear something well? When it comes to fashion, the only constant in all those runway shows is that the people wearing the clothes are all young. Advanced Style tries to turn all that on its head though with the suggestion that one doesn’t have to be youthful to be fashionable, they just have to be young at heart.
Advanced Style shares its name with a blog started by Ari Seth Cohen, which features a collection of photography...

Holland Taylor's one-woman Broadway show about the feisty Texas Gov. Ann Richards reminds us that life is a solo performance
Living well is the best revenge. But having that life portrayed on stage for all to see and reflect upon is almost as good.
Holland Taylor, probably best known to most of America for playing the wise-cracking mother of Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer on the CBS sitcom "Two and a Half Men" is reliving the exceedingly colorful and eventful life of former Gov. Ann Richards of Texas nightly on stage in New York City.
She’s the star and author of "Ann," a one-woman show that opened on Broadway this month to rave notices for Taylor. I caught up with the play earlier this week, a performance that also happened to be attended by former President Bill Clinton and his wife,...

Teen pop idols Justin Bieber, One Direction, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Big Time Rush are finding further fame in the digital comics world.
American publisher Bluewater Productions has this month released 40-page extended graphic novels of its sold-out Fame biography series. These have been expanded from the regular comic book editions released earlier.
"These biographies are a great way to get in new readers to the comic book marketplace," said publisher Darren G. Davis.
"They are do well with libraries and schools as well. Not only are they fun but also they are educational. As a kid that was a reluctant reader - comic books helped me get my reading skills in order. We hope to gain a new and different audience with these.
"We get letters from comic book fans who are parents and love these because they can share their hobby with their kids who are not always into superheroes.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has undertaken a unique expansion in film preservation. As the rise of digital technology drastically reduces the availability of film stock, the project accelerates the work of the Academy Film Archive to acquire and create new archival film masters and prints from at-risk elements. Under the banner “Film-to-Film,” the $2 million initiative, approved by the Academy.s Board of Governors, focuses largely on Academy Award®-winning and nominated films from across motion picture history, including works made as recently as the 1990s.
“This is a moment of great transition for our industry, and we are responding to the urgency of that moment,” said Dawn Hudson, Academy CEO. “By increasing our preservation efforts now, we are building a vital pipeline of films and film elements that we will not only safeguard, but also make available for audiences well into the future.”

This week's Secret Life was sort of a snoozer. In "Young at Heart" the Amy/Ricky/Adrian/Ben competition is still trucking along. Adrian seems to think that the key to winning this ridiculous competition is by bragging about her "walk on water" wild sex with Ben.
First of all, yeah right. Not to discredit Ben, but the boy has had sex once. Despite the fact that the quiet ones can surprise you, the inexperienced ones likely will not. Adrian is probably just experiencing the raging hormones of her pregnancy. Whatever the reason, Ben and Adrian are now humping like bunnies and they feel the need to broadcast it.
Please have a tiny bit of class! Is Adrian still trying to get revenge on Amy? Hasn't she ever heard that happiness is the best revenge?
And I'm not talking about the "I'm so happy I need to shout it from...

The 21st season of Survivor started last night with the premiere, "Young At Heart" which had a new twist and a surprise celebrity castaway. We reviewed the episode last night and now our Round Table writers are eager to break down the ramifications in the opening edition of TV Fanatic's Survivor Round Table?
What did you make of former Dallas Cowboy's coach Jimmy Johnson being included in this season? How will the Medallion of Power impact the game? Who's your early favorite?
As always, we want to hear our reader's take on the weekly questions as well.
Medallion of Power - Love it or Loathe it?
Kakdaddy: The jury is still out for me, but I see huge potential. It could turn out to be a forgettable gimmick, but I think this will be a cool new twist. I say good job by the producers to mix it up a little.

There were two big components to last night’s premiere of the 21st season of Survivor, Survivor: Nicaragua. First, the introduction of a new wrinkle to the game, the Medallion of Power. Second, the inclusion of legendary football coach Jimmy Johnson. Which one proves to play the biggest role in shaping this season of Survivor will play out over the next few weeks. However, if you needed any clue which one CBS felt was the biggest hook, simply look at the title of last night’s episode, “Young At Heart."
The title pays homage to former University of Miami and Dallas Cowboys football coach Jimmy Johnson’s comment upon learning he was being placed on the older tribe, Espada. “I’m young at heart,” Johnson cried, but subsequently admitted in an interview; “I was looking forward to the young people carrying me.”

It's that time again -- when we look back on the past seven days to see who has a budding second career as a nude butcher and who took a metaphorical watermelon to the face (or, as it so happens this week, a literal one).

Baby boomers created modern Hollywood, and as they age they are going to cinemas in droves. So why are so few films made for them – and is it their fault?
Hollywood's elite aren't short of socialising options in the first quarter of each year, but on 16 February this year, the glitzy haze alighted on the Beverly Wilshire hotel. Harry Connick, Jr will act as the celebrity mentor for American Idol hopefuls this week, as they attempt to out their own spin on some Frank Sinatra songs.
The New Orleans singer is well versed in the art of covering a Sinatra tune, having covered many in his albums and concerts to date.
This could be an awful wee for the five remaining contestants as these swing numbers are so well known and often iconic tunes and often singers give a boring but true rendition or they mix it up so much that they destroy the classic song.
We think that Big Mike can totally pull off one of Ol’ Blue Eyes’ songs but Casey James may not be so lucky and will it lead to frontrunner Crystal Bowersox having another bad week?
What Sinatra songs would you like to hear the Crystal Bowersox, Mike Lynche, Casey James, Aaron Kelly and Lee DeWyze sing?...

I'm not exactly sure this is a great idea, but Working Title has found a new writer for its narrative remake of 2008's excellent documentary "Young @ Heart." The guy's name is Will Reiser.
Reiser recently penned Nicole Holofcener's untitled cancer comedy starring James McAvoy as a young man who learns he has cancer. It's based on Reiser's own experiences.
The original doc follows Young at Heart, a chorus of senior citizens as they gear up for a big performance in their hometown of Northampton, Massachusetts. (Read my review here) ...

New York -- "I'm With Cancer" scribe Will Reiser is in talks to write "Young@Heart," Working Title's narrative remake of Fox Searchlight's singing-senior documentary.
Working Title acquired remake rights to "Heart" in 2007, with the project now potentially getting a new burst of development. Bob Nelson wrote a previous draft of the screenplay.
Stephen Walker's original "Heart" tells the story of a group of Northampton, Mass., seniors who, under the tutelage of a younger choir director, sing versions of songs from artists such as The Clash, Coldplay and James Brown.
In addition to reveling in the comedy of seniors performing blues and punk numbers, it also focuses on the lives of the performers, several of whom passed away during the course of production.
The pic earned $4 million domestically in a difficult climate for documentaries.

Movie Review: Aladin; Star Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandes, Saahil Khan, Ratna Pathak; Director: Sujoy Ghosh; Rating: ***1/2
“I am still a teenager”, says Amitabh Bachchan right at the beginning of “Aladin”, setting the mood for the film to follow. Young at heart and fresh in treatment, “Aladin” wouldn’t have been possible without him.
Playing Genius - The Genie could have gone either way since he is expected to be whacky, quirky, a little eccentric, a bit mad and hugely lovable.
The narrative is clearly.
