Great writing, dialogue. Great episode overall. But Paul Mescal's acting really steals the show. This guy will go far!

Incredible

The coming of age Deana pulls out all of the stops as an old school pal dies and grief and guilt take over Connell's emotions testing his relationship. Only one person can help him but they are so far away. Brilliantly written and executed beautifully by the cast. The best episode in the series since the innocence of the first episode. Well done to everyone whom has watched this far. There has been the odd dodgy episode to struggle through. Let's hope they can retain the high quality

The episode which hurt the most

Warning: Spoilers
I often list my favourite episodes of the year as we head towards Christmas because I'm weird like that. When I first watched this I wouldn't have presumed it would be up there, but it's stuck in my mind, haunting me a bit, and I've watched it 4 times over now.

To say it cut me to the core is a bit of a simplification. As a young man in my twenties the idea of a mate of mine committing suicide is terrifying, and as a look at a young person's depression it feels all to real and close to home right now, as many of my generation come to terms with our difficult new reality. As ever with this program it's all presented with such cutting authenticity, not hammy or overdone, just raw, believable emotion. It gave me chills.

Amazing performance

Warning: Spoilers
The acting in this to play someone struggling a moment when he says how he feels, it was mesmerising, possibly the most convincing I have ever seen of what sever e depression feels like, he made you feel how his character felt in that scene.. really special.

grief. and its admirable translation
Kirpianuscus25 February 2023
An episode about grief. But, more important, the episode of Paul Mescal. He is so, so great in the effort and admirable skill to translate on screen the feelings, emotions, angry, frustration, remorses, nostalgia in the most bitter form and the light of his face in the last talk on Skype with Marianne is just...amazing.

It is easy to appreciate the story around a so sensitive subject as suicide, lost, death of an old friend but it is more. Sure, good acting. But , more, again. It is difficult to write what but you are completely certitute to admire and love a great actor. And for this feeling, this no doubts true, I am just grateful to Paul Mescal.
