Warning do not read unless seen episode.
This episode is an honorable mention and is another one of my favorite pilot episodes as it was written by one of my favorite script writers Christy Marx, but also it does what it should do and best which is set up the main plot and protagonist and get them on their way.
Really like how it sets things up as it's flows gradual and naturally making it feel organic. There are a lot of good memorable moments from Conan lifting the stone to retrieve the Atlantean sword. It's basically the whole "Sword in the Stone" motif only here it's the reverse where it's a test of being not just physically but spiritually stronger than the stone. And we see Conan passes on both counts, it's such a rewarding feeling not just in finally getting the sword but knowing it was your own strong will that made it possible.
Another moment is when Wrath Amon then turns Conan's family to stone to make an example of them but also to get a sick laugh which he does, that moment you just want Conan to wipe that sick smile off his face. Conan just draws out that sword and we just see the Star Metal energy shoot out, you can say it was a "I have the Power!" moment which we know Conan does. In a way you can say Wrath Amon has both set him of on Conan's journey but also has somewhat made Conan as he's now his oncoming threat.
We of course see other establishing factors from one decent scuffle with a few snake men as well as a rock troll, both you can say are like the video game tutorial run. Meet up with Ebametrious the Sage who of course is part of Conan lore which leads to the shield and more explanation to the plotline which also helps bring more weight to it, showing how serious this war with this force of evil really is. But also, we see Conan unfortunately get into his first fix as someone slipped a Mickey into his dinner and he is now a slave in one of Wrath Amon's slave ships.
Will Conan find a way out of this fix before his quest ends abruptly, you'll just have to wait till part two.
Rating: 3 and a half stars.
