Fish Soup
johno-213 September 2007
I saw this last month at the 2007 Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films. It's a deadpan seven minute comedy from Mexico and the film debut of writer/director Nuria Ibañez. A family of four is sitting down to an evening meal of fish soup when during a rainstorm an unwanted guest arrives in the dining room. The father (Diego Jáuregui) and son (Norman Delgaddillo) seem ambivalent to the intruder but the mother (Alexandra Vicencio) is adamant that the intruder's visit is terminated and the daughter (Giselle Kuri) shares her mother's angst. Cinematography by Ramón Orozco Stoltenberg, editing by Miguel Schverdfinger, art direction by Diana Saade and sound by Enrique Greiner and Eric Dounce. This is a simple low budget short with just one interior set of the family dining room. It's pretty good though and I would give it a 7.0 out of 10.
