Hard-hitting documentaries centering on some of the world’s most critical geopolitical flashpoints have proved hot sellers for Java Films.
The Paris and London-based distributor closed a number of deals this week at the Unifrance Rendez-Vous TV market in Biarritz for provocative works that examine life in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian city of Gaza, the causes of the Ukraine war, and rising tensions between the U.S. and China over the vital supply of semiconductors.
Chiara Avesani and Matteo Delbò’s “Erasmus in Gaza” follows Riccardo, an Italian final-year medical student who wants to be a trauma surgeon and travels to war-torn Gaza on an Erasmus exchange program in order to receive battlefield training and write his thesis on explosive bullet wounds. The young medic is not prepared for the brutality of war, however.
The film, produced by Barcelona-based Arpa Films, sold this week to Japan’s Nhk and Portuguese broadcaster Sic.

Ten’s dreadful start to the ratings week continued on Monday with the network trailling throughout the night with not a single show above 1m.
The poor performance comes after Ten’s Super Sunday also saw significant falls without a single show delivering more than 900,000.
According to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam, Ten’s only decent performer on Monday was The Biggest Loser which rated 942,000 – the best for the series to date. Ten then declined to 652,000 for Bondi Rescue and 525,000 for NCIS Los Angeles. At 9.30pm Hawaii Five-0 delivered a dreadful 353,000. It was even thrashed by ABC1′s Media Watch which rated 750,000 and Q&A which rated 659,000.
Even in Ten’s heartland younger demographics, Hawaii Five-0 bombed – 23rd for the night in 16-39. Media Watch was 22nd and Q&A 24th.

Herman Cain is one punk who should be feeling lucky. (Well… to an extent.) In a bizarre turn of events, Hollywood's perennial badass Clint Eastwood has come out in support of Cain's bid for presidency. Clint fucking Eastwood. The tall, lean, craggy-faced curmudgeon who, once upon a time, could've played with my Misty if he wanted to, chose the "9-9-9"-touting pizza tycoon with a slightly troubling history of sexual harassment as America's best bet? Well, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Eastwood, a Libertarian who has voted Republican in every presidential election since 1952, sees Cain as a [...]...

You saw the beginning and end of Andy and April's impulsive road trip on Thursday's (Nov. 3) "Parks and Recreation." Now you can watch some of the rest of the journey too.
The show has released its first-ever set of webisodes. "Road Trip" (sponsored by Volkswagen) follows Andy (Chris Pratt) and April (Aubrey Plaza) as they set out on a marathon drive so Andy can cross seeing the Grand Canyon off his bucket list. There are a few obstacles along the way, though.
In the first episode (which is above), April nearly torpedoes the whole trip when she discovers a spider in the car. Andy then gets really excited when they reach the Four Corners (or so he thinks), and Leslie (Amy Poehler) offers up some travel tips via phone. When they finally reach their destination, April and Andy talk about settling down there.

If you're a fan of Parks and Recreation, you know well that one of the things that really makes the show is the full force of the entire ensemble. It's a show, oddball as it may be, that truly calls into question the notion of "supporting actors."
Whether it's Aziz Ansari rolling out ludicrous monologues, Aubrey Plaza's perfectly dark and disinterested attitude, or Nick Offerman's mere presence, everyone on the show stands out, and with a different group the show likely wouldn't have made it past the first three episodes.
Well, if you can't get enough, you can now check out the new webseries, April and Andy's Road Trip. If you watched the show last night, you know that the happy couple were inspired to take a road trip, and now you can see highlights from their grand adventure.
You can see the in-universe site as well here http://www.

We’re almost at the halfway point: it’s Breaking Bad Season 4, Episode 6, entitled “Cornered”. If we’re continuing the pattern of the last few titles, “Cornered” will end up referring to both a literal and figurative “Corner” — perhaps Walt will feel “cornered” by Gus when Gus forces him to fold the corner of his The Corner DVD while eating candy corn on his after-school talk show “Corner’s Korner.” And wouldn’t you know it? That’S Literally What Happens. Also, we meet this guy, aka Mayor MethCheese: Generally speaking, “Cornered” was a pretty standard mid-season episode: We get detailed, drawn-out character moments on both the Walt and Jesse sides of the coin (and there’s a thrilling literal-coin scene! Two coin meanings! They should’ve called the episode “Coinered” and gone for the octuple pun!) But there aren’t any story-shattering developments, and the plot only advances very slightly from the week before.

Breaking Bad keeps putting nails in Walter White's coffin, a grisly fate Gus spelled out for us in the brutal season premiere "Box Cutter." Of course, it's nothing compared to the beating taken in "Thirty-Eight Snub," but it's "Open House" for chaos and all hell might break loose if our favorite chemist doesn't put a few "Bullet Points" into his employers and take a "Shotgun" to his would-be killers!
This week, Jesse continues working in his new partnership with Mike while Walter works on re-asserting his dominance. Not only does he pettily dismiss his former boss Bogdan, but he lets Skyler know who wears the pants in the drug trade and gives one hell of a present to Walter Jr.!
So what will Walter do with Jesse's loyalty shifting more toward the employers who tried to have them killed? What will Skyler do now that she's seen the face of Heisenberg lashing out at her?...

Things opened up on Breaking Bad with a teaser reminiscent of episode four’s. Cartel thugs once again ambush a Los Pollos truck, only this time it’s not Mike who’s hiding in the vehicle. The thugs learned a valuable lesson from dealing with Mike and this time use the truck’s exhaust to kill the guards inside. Taking the driver’s lunch, the thugs just listen as the two men inside struggle to get out before the exhaust kills them. Welcome to “Cornered.”
Picking up from last week, Walt is thoroughly hung over. His drunken claim that Gale isn’t Heisenberg kept Skylar up all night, and now she believes Walt’s employers had something to do with the murder. She is understandably concerned, but Walt just sees this as Skylar emasculating him. After Walt’s assurances that Gus didn’t kill Gale fail to calm Skylar, Walt gets mad.

Breaking Bad, Season Four, Episode Six: “Cornered”
Written by Gennifer Hutchison

Airs Sundays at 10pm Et on AMC
Everybody knows Walter White is an asshole. But is Skyler White an idiot?
One of the hardest things to accept in fiction can be a character who doesn’t perceive everything they so clearly should. Skyler has continued to be married to Walter, the lying, crooked, unstable meth manufacturer, since knowing him to be as much since the beginning of last season. It can be difficult to forgive a character their ignorance of what’s plainly visible to any viewer. This week, Skyler finally lifted the proverbial wool from here eyes – just a little. Following the deliberately repetitive cold open – viewers might well think they’re seeing a rerun of “Bulet Points” for the first few seconds – Walt and Skyler argue over the fate of Gale Boetticher...

Little by little, week by week, Walter White is getting smaller and smaller.
On "Cornered," he was once again phased out of the business while, perhaps even more damaging, even if the Heisenberg side of him doesn't want to admit it, he was outed by his wife as the dangerous, prideful, power hungry meth manufacturer that he is.
Someone has to protect this family from the man who protects this family. Not much Walt can say to that, is there?
Is Walt tough enough to be boss? Of course... according to his world view
There's nowhere for Walt to hide at this point. His relationship with Jesse scarcely exists, his wife finally sees him for who he has truly become and even his son can't be fooled by a phony, supposedly fatherly gesture.
Walt is simply a poor mentor to Jesse, an irresponsible husband and business partner to Skyler and an Atm to his son.

This week’s episode of Breaking Bad, “Cornered”, is like a gigantic chess board, with all the players making moves and countermoves. Who’s winning and who’s losing? All depends on perspective.
The first move of the episode is made by the rival cartel on Gus’ operation, as the hired muscle inside the Los Pollos Hermanos truck is outmaneuvered, trapped in the truck and carbon monoxide-d to death, with only one bucket full of blue meth taken from the hijacking.

TV3 series 'The Guards' is currently in post-production in London's Four Corners. The series, made by Legend United productions in association with October Eleven Pictures has seen its director, Graham Cantwell (Anton) distance himself from the project citing his unhappiness "with how it was being steered" as his reason for leaving. 'The Guards' explores the real-life gritty workings of Ireland's law enforcement officers as experienced through three young characters – Diarmuid, Donal and Aiden. Ambitious and ruthless, the threesome will do anything to get the job done and secure a conviction. The series is being produced by Jonathan Figgis (3 Crosses) and was written and executive produced by Steven Aldridge (Soul Traces, Bedlam) for Legend United productions in association with October Eleven Pictures.

Michael Norton inherited the reigns of director for the Katoomba Short Film Festival almost by accident. He was approached by a couple of motivated locals who had started a small film festival. They enlisted his help after they heard he had worked for the ABC as an editor on compelling programs such as Four Corners. This is Norton's second year as festival director and he has found the experience to be enriching. It has been his first time, not only working behind the curtain in the events industry, but also up close with short films. "It was a real eye opener, especially when I saw what people could achieve with a film in such a short space of time," he enthuses.

That said, we recommend one rule change: To make a winning card official, the player must yell out "That's a Bingo!" in a thick-German accent.

Sure, this year the Academy has removed the cheesy Best Song performances and implemented a backstage Thank-You Cam to try to move the festivities along. But that's hardly enough to guarantee a rousing viewing experience.
Forget the ballots, we've got a better game to keep the evening and your party lively (although we wouldn't skip the full bar). Print our 2010 Awards Bingo cards and markers. Director: Guy Ritchie Writers: Arthur Conan Doyle (Characters), Lionel Wigram (Story), Michael Robert Johnson, Anthony Peckham, Simon Kinberg (Screenplay) Starring: Robert Downey, Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong Guy Ritchie’s interpretation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s infamous sleuth – Sherlock Holmes – bares very little resemblance to its literary source, as he opts to focus on Sherlock’s brawn over his brain. Sure, Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock can fight when need be (according to Doyle’s books, Sherlock is an expert fist-fighter and swordsman) but Ritchie’s Sherlock possesses fighting skills, strength and indestructibility that are typically reserved for superheroes and gods. Ritchie’s relentless testosterone fest takes place in London in 1891 (which looks eerily similar to the Hughes Brothers’ vision of London in From Hell). We are introduced to Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his partner Dr. John Watson (Jude Law) as they are in the midst...

Thessaloniki has so much to offer and between meetings and screenings, plus my current work with the Berlinale's European Film Market, there is little time to explore the environs, like, Mount Olympus and the newly excavated perfectly preserved gravesite of Philip, the father Alexander the Great and Alexander's son Alexander IV, killed before reaching the age to become king. Truly and literally classic!
Thessaloniki is situated between east (as in The Byzantine) and west Europe, at the edge of the Balkans. Aside from the market itself called Agora and organized by Margarita Eliopoulou, three sections are designed to take advantage of its geographically unique location: the Balkans, South Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean.
• Salonica Studio/ Four Corners, the Tiff Student Workshop - My partner Peter Belsito is busy coaching the Thessaloniki film school students in pitching and entering the world('s) markets. Thessaloniki has the largest student population in Greece.

A Work In Progress: Halls and the lobby of Loews remained bare and quiet until Monday when the final day approaches and buyers began congregating in final deals. Surprisingly to all multiple sales had already been made by day 2 and sales for some, if not all were better than expected even if prices were lower. At the Thursday evening European Film Promotion reception, where all friends in the biz meet with welcoming smiles, Marcus Hu of Strand said he was already packing up to go as he had made his purchases..they were already screening Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before AFM began he said. One sales agent remarked that Toronto was the zero level and AFM looked like level 1 had been reached. One sales agent said only theatrical films were selling. Jonathan Wolf says AFM has are 10% fewer sellers (369 vs. 412 in 2008) but 4% more buyers with 13 new buyers from South Korea,...
