"Fairfield, Idaho" is sophisticated entertainment
Matthew-72424 October 2007
I saw FAIRFIELD, IDAHO at the Idaho International Film Festival and was stunned. In this cinematically impoverished age of Dogma 95, 'mumblecore' and dim-witted Tarantino imitations, this little indie movie was truly a breath of fresh air.

To describe FAIRFIELD, IDAHO as intelligent and thoughtful doesn't do it justice. To say that the low-key acting is superb and the characters are extraordinarily well delineated doesn't praise it enough.

This movie has a rare cinematic integrity in that the narrative is advanced through the images and not solely through its dialogue. This feat is nearly unheard of in the world of micro-budget, DIY film-making - and makes director Darwin Meiners a member of a virtually extinct species of filmmaker.

This is the kind of sophisticated entertainment I seek out at festivals.
