For a 20 odd minute cartoon from the 1970s, this cartoon had surprising similarities to the novel. Differences? He met a male warrior instead of a girl and the cartoon covers only some events from the first half of the book, but you can't really expect a short cartoon to fully cover an entire novel.

In the book, Tarzan visited the second city in the valley and help depose a tyrant. He wound up with friends in both cities, which were eternally at war with each other. It's too bad they didn't make a two-parter (or more) and cover that story, too.
