Andrzej Bartkowiak got his start in the entertainment industry working as a cinematographer, working on such films as Terms of Endearment, Prizzi’s Honor, Twins, Falling Down, Speed, Species, Dante’s Peak, The Devil’s Advocate, U.S. Marshals, Lethal Weapon 4, Thirteen Days, and Trespass. But back at the turn of the century he also got into directing, working mainly in the action genre: Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, Maximum Impact, Dead Reckoning. His most well-known movie, for better or worse, may be the action horror video game adaptation Doom. Now Deadline has announced that Bartkowiak is treading back into horror territory, as he has signed on to direct the supernatural thriller The Dire Wolf.
Coming our way from Steelyard Pictures, The Dire Wolf has a screenplay written by Ry Cook and is expected to start filming in New Mexico soon, aiming for a 2024 release.

If you thought CinemaCon was the only game in town this Thursday, think again! The Hollywood Reporter says Talk to Me directing duo Danny and Michael Philippou are in talks to direct Street Fighter, Legendary’s adaptation of the classic fighting video game from Capcom.
Street Fighter is one of the most beloved fighting game franchises in history. The first game in the series, Street Fighter, hit arcades in 1987, followed by Street Fighter II in 1991. I was there, man. For both of them! I remember going to Nathan’s Famous restaurants to play the original, and it was a madhouse. People of all ages hooted and hollered around the Street Fighter cabinet as Ryu and Ken duked it out. There was something special about Street Fighter from the start, and the franchise grew with each iteration. I’ll never forget the first time I unleashed Blanka’s electric attack or Chun-Li’s Hundred Lightning Kicks.

For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. Back in 1987, Capcom introduced the world to "Street Fighter," permanently changing the landscape of fighting games and birthing an extremely popular (and profitable) multi-media franchise. In the last 35 years, "Street Fighter" has spawned almost 150 different games, spin-offs, TV shows, movies, and appearances in other games. That number is about to get even bigger because, as The Hollywood Reporter notes, Legendary Pictures — the folks who also put out "Godzilla vs. Kong," "Detective Pikachu," and "Dune" — have acquired the film and TV rights to "Street Fighter."
This is phenomenal news for fans of the classic fighting game, because Hollywood has a pretty disappointing track record with adapting "Street Fighter" for the big screen. Back in 1994, Universal released "Street Fighter: The Movie" featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li,...

Legendary Entertainment has acquired film and television rights to the video game franchise “Street Fighter.” Any upcoming projects — including one feature film that’s already in the works — will be co-developed and produced in conjunction with video game distributor Capcom.
Since the franchise launched in 1987, Street Fighter has sold over 49 million units worldwide, becoming one of the most well-known and highest-grossing video game franchises of all time. It also spawned other games, various spin-offs and crossovers featuring characters like Ryu, Ken, Chung-Li, Guile and M. Bison. Capcom is behind other popular games, such as “Resident Evil” and “Monster Hunter.”
Hollywood has yet to master a live-screen version of “Street Fighter,” though there have been several attempts. Universal’s 1994 action film “Street Fighter” — starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Kylie Minogue, Ming-Na Wen and Raul Julia — was a critical and commercial misfire, as was 20th Century Fox’s 2009 adaptation “Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-Li” with Kristin Kreuk.

With movie theaters fully back up and running, HBO Max no longer has any major film releases to point to with its list of new releases for May 2022. That’s alright though as the streamer is leaning into the HBO side of its branding to offer up some fun TV releases.
The biggest HBO Max original this month is undoubtedly the return of Hacks on May 12. The first season of this comedy starred Jean Smart as a venerated Vegas comedy and Hannah Einbinder as her new millennial assistant. The first batch of episodes was excellent and even won an Emmy or two for its troubles and now season 2 will look to keep up the good vibes.
Premiering on May 15, is The Time Traveler’s Wife. This series adaptation of the 2003 novel (which in turn became a a 2009 movie) keeps up with two star-crossed lovers who can never quite make the timing work…...

The Street Fighter franchise doesn’t have the best relationship with live-action film. The 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme/Raul Julia adaptation has become a kitsch classic, but is still a terrible movie and doesn’t adapt the franchise at all faithfully. Remarkably, the next attempt was even worse, as 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li starred Kristin Kreuk and Chris Klein and is so bad that even as a diehard Street Fighter fan, I couldn’t make it all the way through. It eventually took a fan film, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist to produce something that was of an acceptable quality.
But in my opinion, Street Fighter is still crying out for the full Hollywood treatment. With superheroes still riding high, the game’s crew of bizarre martial arts fighters, big personalities and completely bonkers backstories could be a giant hit and now, BossLogic has given us an idea...

The first social media reactions to Venom have arrived from critics who have seen it. As you might have expected, the reviews aren’t very good. In fact, the movie is compared to previously made superhero duds like Catwoman and Fantastic Four, which doesn’t spark much confidence. However, there are a few critics that did find some things that they liked about it. But, for the most part, the reactions are more negative.
I hoped that this wouldn’t be the case! I really did want this movie to turn out better than I expected, but it looks like it’s not going to give us a great movie. I’ll still see it, though, and form my own opinion. Maybe it will at least have some fun an enjoyable moments.

Video game movies have a bad reputation because, well, there are very few that we’d call “good.” At their best, at least so far, the big screen versions of video games have been fun and trashy entertainment. At their worst, however, they’re as bad as anything else we’ve ever seen in a movie theater.
So let’s rank ‘em!
41. “Postal” (2008)
The pinnacle of director Uwe Boll‘s string of horrendous video game movies (he has five that qualify for this list by getting theatrical releases somewhere), but to be fair it’s probably still a better work of art than the game it’s based on.
40. “Alone in the Dark” (2005)
“House of the Dead” briefly tricked us into thinking Uwe Boll was a camp master, but his next video game movie, “Alone in the Dark,” was such an incomprehensible slog that I have never been able to...

More than two decades after Street Fighter‘s failed leap to the big screen — the 1994 picture boasts a whopping 18 percent on Rotten Tomatoes — the video game franchise is being developed into a live-action television series, our sister site Deadline reports.

The foursome will team up against M. Bison, head of the global criminal outfit Shadaloo. Initially on separate paths, the four fighters will come together at the World Warrior Tournament, which M.

A truly good video game movie adaptation has been something of a Holy Grail for decades now, but while small amounts of enjoyment can be eked from some — the Resident Evil films, Silent Hill, Hitman — none have managed to deliver greatness on the big screen. (That said, I will go to my grave trying to convince the rest of you to appreciate the pure, magical bliss that is Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.) Instead, the best video game movies we’ve seen so far have been the ones inspired by games rather than based on them — think The Last Starfighter or Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Hardcore Henry is the latest film to embrace that aesthetic and the first to do so entirely in a first-person Pov, but while it may not be one of the best video game movies it’s definitely the most video game movie. Henry awakes in an operating room under the...

In case you weren't buying into the Top Gun 2 hype, Jerry Bruckheimer wants you to know he just met with Tom Cruise in New Orleans to talk about it. Deadline reports that the producer's weekend visit was arranged to hash out a potential plot line. An unnamed source also told the site that the long-overdue sequel is "closer now to becoming real than it’s been in 30 years." The updates come months after a series of major plugs last summer, as well as a very confusing Val Kilmer Facebook post — both of which promised progress on a follow-up fans had heard rumors about for decades. Around the same time, it had also been revealed that Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li) was writing the script, with a definite spot for Maverick and a contemporary take on dogfighting. As Skydance CEO David Ellison said (via Collider):When you...

Disney recently debuted a brand new Russian teaser trailer for Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book, which was initially teased for the first time a few weeks ago. Additional well-known actors voice the various animals, including Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Christopher Walken and Scarlett Johansson. There's a few impressive shots of additional footage in this trailer, otherwise we're going to have to keep waiting as they finish rendering more of the CGI leading up to its release next spring. According to TV Line, Neal McDonough will be the latest DC bad guy to cause trouble in Starling City as he's signed on to play Damien Darhk in season 4 of the CW's Arrow. Doom
Written by David Callaham and Wesley Strick

Czech Republic, Germany, United Kingdom, USA, 2005
In 2013, The Rock was named the highest grossing actor of the year with his films pulling in a combined $1.3 billion. Things were not always this great for The Rock though. In 2013, The Rock was named the highest grossing actor of the year with his films pulling in a combined $1.3 billion. Things were not always this great for The Rock though. Just a few days after Warner Bros. Pictures announced they had delayed Jungle Book: Origins back to October of 2017, Disney felt like firming up their plans to release their own adaptation of The Jungle Book on October 9th, 2015. Production is underway on the film right now, and while we don't have a first look at the film from the set (likely because there will be tons of visual effects used to bring the animals to life), a piece of concept art has surfaced giving us a glimpse at Mowgli (played by newcomer Neel Sethi, the only actor who will be seen on screen) and the black panther Bagheera (voiced by Ben Kingsley). Look! Here's the first piece of concept art from Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book from Disney: The Jungle Book is directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Cowboys & Aliens, Elf, Zathura, Made) and written by Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li...

Justin Marks, the screenwriter behind films such as Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and Jon Favreau's upcoming Jungle Book movie has been hired by Paramount Pictures and Skydance to script Top Gun 2.
The Jerry Bruckheimer production has been in slow development for years, but it looks like they are ready to try and move forward. Tom Cruise is set to reprise his role in the film as Maverick, and the story will focus on "the relevance of good old fashioned pilots in today’s high-tech, drone-centric war environment."
Tony Scott was set to direct the film before he passed away in 2012. The film he was developing was written by Peter Craig, who is the same guy who wrote Ben Affleck’s The Town.

Oscar winner Ben Kingsley ("Gandhi") has been cast as the voice of Bagheera the black panther in Disney’s upcoming live action/animated "The Jungle Book." The "Book" cast already includes Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson and recent Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o. Like previous film versions, "Book" will center on Mowgli, an orphan boy raised in the jungles of India by such friendly beats as Bagheera and Baloo the bear. Not all of them are friendly though -- especially the tiger known as Shere Khan. Disney first adapted Rudyard Kipling’s 19th century stories in the hit 1967 animated musical, and released a live-action take in 1994 starring Jason Scott Lee and Lena Headey. The latest version will be directed by Jon Favreau ("Iron Man," "Chef") from a script by Justin Marks ("Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li"). Meanwhile, there's another "Jungle Book" taking shape at Warner Bros., with Ron Howard directing. Kingsley...

So, you've won an Oscar, you've just been declared by People magazine to be the most beautiful person (celebrity) on the planet, so what do you do for your next move? If you're Lupita Nyong'o you go blockbuster, and that's just what she's done, along with Scarlett Johansson. The actresses have joined Disney's live-action/CGI version of "The Jungle Book," that has Jon Favreau set to direct. Justin Marks ("Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li") has penned the script, about which plot details haven't been revealed. But all the familiar characters will be there with Idris Elba voicing the man-eating tiger Shere Khan, Nyong'o will play Rakcha, the wolf who takes in the orphan Mogwli and ScarJo will portray the sling python Kaa. As for the lead role of the young Mowgli, no one has been set yet, but we'd wager an announcement is coming soon. Why? Because "The Jungle Book...

There's a web series based on Capcom's Street Fighter games coming out this year. Here's a handsome poster to remind us...
Capcom's hit videogame series Street Fighter hasn't exactly had the most classy track record on the silver screen. The 1994 film, which starred Jead-Claude Van Damme in his action star pomp alongside Kylie Minogue and Raul Julia, was the kind of amiably daft film we always seem to find while sleepily flicking through the TV channels after the pub's closed. The 2009 film Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-Li wasn't terribly good, but it did have the benefit of having Michael Clarke Duncan in the role of Balrog.
The web series Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, although very much a low-budget labour of love, promises to do a better job of rendering the games' characters in flesh-and-blood form. It arrives on the back of the success of Street Fighter: Legacy,...

How terrible is Dragonball: Evolution? Well, let's just say I'd rather see Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-li again before watching that piece of shit for a second time. I don't know who hates the movie more: fans of the original anime or people who have no clue about the source material. Jon Favreau is set return to the big budget world with a new live action adaptation of “The Jungle Book” for Disney. My fellow Queens College alum, Favreau, made his big screen directing debut with “Made” back in 2001, then followed that up with the modern day Christmas classic, “Elf.” From there, it was a steady stream of big budget blockbuster-type films from “Zathura” to “Iron Man” to “Cowboys & Aliens.” Perhaps feeling a little burnt out on large studio fare, Favreau just wrapped work on an indie film called “Chef.” His clout, at this stage, can’t be questioned. Even for this “indie,” he was able to attract Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr, Dustin Hoffman, John Leguizamo, Sofia Vergara, and others.
So now, the studio with the big ears has tapped him to direct their next big screen adaptation of “Jungle Book,” which will retell the story of Mowgli- a boy raised by wolves,...

Over the summer, we learned that Walt Disney Pictures was looking to create another live-action version of Rudyard Kipling's classic short story collection The Jungle Book. Though the more famous version is the 1967 animated musical, there was a live-action version from the studio in 1994 starring Jason Scott Lee as an adult Mowgli along with Cary Elwes, Sam Neill, Lena Headey and John Cleese in supporting roles. Now THR has word that Iron Man, Cowboys & Aliens and Elf director Jon Favreau is currently in talks to direct the project after taking time to make a small independent project called Chef away from the studios. Justin Marks is still writing the script, and as we wrote before, that doesn't inspire much confidence since he wrote Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. However, Marks also worked on an early draft of Disney's stagnant 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a feature adaptation of the short film The Raven,...

Waterworld director Kevin Reynolds set to take charge of film about Roman centurion investigating apparent rise from dead
A mystery thriller about the resurrection of Jesus is being planned by Waterworld director Kevin Reynolds, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Backers Ld Entertainment have pitched it as "Gladiator in tone but with a mystery bent, an all-ages movie that tells of how the first Easter came to be".
Reynolds is attached to Resurrection, which is described as the story "of the first 40 days after the resurrection of Jesus" as seen through the eyes of an "agnostic Roman centurion charged by Pontius Pilate to investigate rumors of a risen Jewish messiah and locate the missing body of Jesus of Nazareth". The narrative takes place against the backdrop of "an imminent uprising in Jerusalem, and the centurion "meets the Apostles and other historical and biblical characters".

Motion pictures that based upon video games are constantly announced, but few ever manage to materialize. And it's just as well, because those that actually end up happening are often disappointing to put it mildly. Though for better or worse, a live action adaptation of EA's Dead Space is still happening, contrary to what some might have believed.
According to Desturctoid, citing a report from Variety, the project has been in the works for at least three years now. Back in 2009, DJ Caruso was announced to be the director, but not much has happened after. Since then, several other properties that EA was shopping around Hollywood also failed to gain any traction, including Mass Effect, Army of Two, The Sims, Spore, and even Dante's Inferno.
As a result, EA intends to take a more active role in the movie making business. An example of this is the upcoming Need For Speed flick,...

Electronic Arts is planning to turn its popular "Dead Space" video game franchise into a movie. "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li" writer Justin Marks has already been hired to provide the script, while Neal Moritz (I Am Legend) is on board to produce. During the San Diego Comic-Con, Marks said that the "Dead Space" film shouldn't be faithful to the video game. "You would be making 'Event Horizon' or 'Alien.' I've already seen that movie," he stated, adding that the director should instead focus on the main character's story. While a director has yet to be brought on board, John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing) had previously expressed interest in taking on the project. "I maintain that 'Dead Space' would just make a great movie because you have these people coming onto an abandoned, shut-down space ship and they have to start it up and something's on board,...

Disney has announced that it's developing a live-action version of "The Jungle Book," which is a classic set of stories by Rudyard Kipling. Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li) is on board to write the script. A search for a director is underway. The short-story collection was published in 1894, and the majority of the tales focus on Mowgli, a young boy raised by wolves whose friends include a bear named Baloo and a panther by the name of Bagheera. One of the adversaries that pops up several times is Shere Khan, a mean tiger. Disney famously adapted the stories in a 1967 animated film (it was the last film to be produced by Walt Disney, who died during production). The stories also have been adapted into numerous live-action and cartoon forms. "Jungle Book" is the latest Disney animated film to get the live-action treatment. "Alice in Wonderland" started the trend,...

Fresh off the disaster that was The Lone Ranger, Disney is hitching themselves onto another property from roughly 100 years ago- Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book.” The Hollywood Reporter announced today that a live-action adaptation was moving forward, with Justin Marks writing the screenplay. Marks previously wrote a draft of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for Disney, which suggests he may be an ideal writer for such a big-budget adaptation. However, his screenplay for Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li says otherwise. With any luck, The Jungle Book will resemble the former more than the latter. As of now, no other names have been attached to the film. Disney’s adaptation isn’t the only Jungle Book in the works, however. Kipling’s collection of stories is in the public domain, thus allowing anyone to have a go at it, and Warner Bros has a live-action version in the works with Steve Kloves (writer of seven of the...

Because The Lone Ranger and John Carter haven't taught Disney any lessons about reaching into the past for more classic big screen adaptations, the studio is developing another live-action take on Rudyard Kipling's classic novel The Jungle Book. Disney is working on a new live-action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li writer Justin Marks has been hired to pen the script.
The company is currently searching for a director for the project, which is still in its early stages.
Marks has written for Disney before. He penned an early draft of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and The Raven, which is currently under production with Mark Wahlberg.
The new adaptation is one of a number of Disney classics being reimagined in live-action, alongside the likes of Angelina Jolie's Maleficent - based on Sleeping Beauty - and Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella.
Warner Bros is also keen to reboot the Kipling novel and has secured Harry Potter writer Steve Kloves to write its version.

There’s nothing Hollywood loves more than a successful franchise. Each summer we see more and more monolithic spectacles constructed via committee to appeal to the widest possible audience. Studios endeavour to hit the worldwide audiences’ sweet spot in the hope that they will birth a new cash cow and get a license to print money.
Often, as with this summer’s The Lone Ranger, Hollywood turns to sure bet properties that have already won over audiences’ hearts. Though early estimates show The Lone Ranger is going to be Disney’s biggest flop since John Carter (it opened to only $10 million on Friday, likely to do well below the estimated $60 million opening weekend).
Sometimes, as with the upcoming Pacific Rim, a studio takes a gamble and rolls the dice on a new premise; unfortunately, in both cases, they often roll snake eyes.
I present to you a list of ten such misfires,...

Today’s morning bits bring you a buttload of casting notices (yay!), word of Anne Hathaway’s new gig that doesn’t involve her suiting up in tight black latex (boo!), and movement on the Michael Fassbender movie “Assassin’s Creed” (hmmm). Up first, that Michael Fassbender-fronted “Assassin’s Creed” movie, based on the series of bestselling videogames by developer Ubisoft, has landed itself an English playwright in Michael Lesslie (“Prince of Denmark”) to script the killer’s, er, killer adventures. I’ve never played the games, but from everything I’ve seen of it, including trailers and pics, it looks like an epic movie is very much possible. When it comes to anime/manga adaptation, the U.S. has a less-than-stellar track record with films like Dragonball: Evolution and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. Many fans insist that Hollywood should just leave anime adaptations to their Far East counterparts. While I've generally found myself on the opposite side of that sentiment, Rurouni Kenshin goes a long way towards supporting the other side of the argument. Possessing a strong following in Japan and a devoted fanbase in America thanks to its Toonami run, Rurouni Kenshin should please both hardcore fans and first-time viewers alike. Watching the film, it was as if Takeru Sato (Kenshin), Munetaka Aoki (Sanosuke), Emi Takei (Kaoru) and Yû Aoi (Megumi) stepped out of the anime, each of the main actors channeled the core elements of their respective character admirably. However, in a crowd of strong performances, it's Teryuki Kagawa's turn as the...

He will be working with Trank on the script and will rewrite an original draft by Justin Marks, who at one point in time, was the go-to guy for just about every geek project percolating in Hollywood. (Marks is also the man who gave us the award-winning “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li”. Here’s hoping Trank and Lochhead doesn’t ruin Marks’ genius script.)
