Willie certainly is peculiar in this episode, or as Joe tells Carolyn vet peculiar. It's a spooky situation for David, locked in the crypt after hiding from Barnabas and Willie. All of the participants of the previous episode are there, in addition to Vicki, home from a date with Burke, and frantic over David's disappearance. Barnabas gets to console her, and for once, you get to see the softer side of him, even though as you see in the final moments his carnal lust takes over in a shocking way. You know that deep down he hates the urge that takes over, and the way the camera lights the scene indicates that. Barnabas is also reflective in an earlier moment with Willie where he tells him a childhood memory about Sarah. The love that comes from his eyes when discussing his beloved late sister is a profound moment for him.

So you get to real frights here, one with David's situation and the other with the final shot at the end. There are good moments to between Joe and Carolyn with Carolyn expressing how she feels about Vicky's impending marriage to Burke. It's an episode of varying moods that gives everybody an opportunity for some good material, with Willie standing out particularly when he tells Joe and Carolyn and no certain firms can they search the old house. It's episodes like this that keeps the show moving at a steady pace and thanks to the writing and direction in addition to the performances makes watcing the show a lot of fun.

Episode 311 sees David trapped in Barnabas's secret tomb, leading to much in the way of heartache, shouting, and characters prowling around in the bushes. It's a bit drawn out, although the climactic twist is irresistable.
