The True Identity of the Ice Truck Killer
claudio_carvalho2 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
After the third suicide of powerful businesswomen using the same "modus operandi", Dexter searches some evidence in common in the report of the cases. He finds that the three victims were clients of Dr. Emmett Meridian and he schedules a session with the suspicious psychologist. Meanwhile Debra falls in love for the prosthetic Rudy Cooper. Lt. Maria Laguerta investigates the profile of Neil Perry further and concludes that he can not be the Ice Truck Killer. Rita improves her relationship with Paul Bennett and she notes that Dexter made her a more secure woman. She calls Dexter and she intends to have the next step in their relationship, but he feels insecure; however, the sessions with Dr. Emmett improves Dexter and he moves on in the relationship with Rita.

"Shrink Wrap" is one of the best episodes of "Dexter" so far. The surprising true identity of the Ice Truck Killer is finally disclosed; the relationship among Dexter, Rita and Paul improves, and Dexter seems to accept Rita "less damaged" by Paul; for the first time I ma cheering for Lt. Laguerta against her despicable boss. Last but not the least, the romance between Debra and Rudy is promising and one of the best moments of this great show. My vote is nine.

Explosive Ending!
g-bodyl1 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The eighth episode in Dexter: Season One is just really intense all because of one thing: the ending. Not to say this episode was bad, but the last minute was just explosive and mind-shocking. I didn't realize they would reveal the true identity of the Ice Truck Killer and it wasn't the person who I'd thought it would be. This episode could perhaps be the best yet.

In this episode, "Shrink Wrap," Dexter investigates a psychiatrist who may have murdered his wife. Meanwhile, Rita and her ex-husband begin to be on better terms with each other. Also, Lt. Maria begins to prove why this so-called killer is actually not the Ice Truck Killer.

Overall, this episode has it all. It has one hell of an ending thanks to the big reveal. It has a another victim being murdered by Dexter. It also has an engaging story that mixes past with present effectively. Needless to say, this is a very good episode. I rate this episode 9/10.

Dexter needs therapy.
chillwill9221 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
In "Shrink Wrap", Dexter goes after Dr. Meridian (Tony Goldwyn), a psychiatrist who supposedly talked women into suicide. At the same time, he receives relationship advice from the doctor while scoping him as a potential victim. To me, this plot line was a little contrived and uneven, and just did not meet the standards of some of the previous episodes. Dexter's kill was a little more original than usual, though, and brought a satisfying conclusion. The Rita/Paul storyline continues, with Rita being a little more willing to let Paul see the kids. However, you just get a feeling that it won't last. In addition, Debra (Jennifer Carpenter), appears to be falling for Rudy (Christian Camargo), who seems just a little off to me. Neil Perry's story continues, and LaGuerta becomes convinced that he is not the Ice Truck Killer. Overall, this episode was about a 7 out of 10. That is, until the ending. While not quite mind-blowing, it does make the story far more interesting, and deserves a bump up in score.

Is Dexter Rewatchable? Hell Yes!!!
manipool18 May 2011
I am re-watching Dexter after watching all five seasons recently and am now waiting for the sixth to start. I'll even subscribe to Showtime so that I don't have to miss an episode of the new season. I must say that I barely thought of Michael C. Hall as handsome or a better than average actor when I was watching "Six Feet Under," but on this show he is throughly present and I am blissfully aware he's unusually cute/handsome.

I find myself addicted to this show and would really love it if they had him do more shirt off/sex scenes....(I also love that kill shirt he wears) anyway, back to the episode. Wow, the writing's great, the acting's great. I was riveted all the way through. Really loved seeing "Ghosts" Tony Goldwyn in the epi, he did a fantastic job as the psychiatrist.

I really do love anytime Dexter has a breakthrough toward becoming more of an emotional human being and learning to understand and perhaps control his "dark passenger.' For me his humor balances out all the gore and blood. I just hope they can keep the premise from getting monotonous.

What a twist!
dannylee-7808218 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
While I did find Deb's love interest slightly unsettling, especially with his fascination with the human body, I wouldn't have guessed that he was the ice-truck killer. Come to think of it, it's quite poetic for a prosthetics doctor to be a serial killer that chops up bodies. I can't really predict what's going to happen with this standoff between Dexter and ice-truck killer.

Overall, this episode was decent but I felt that Dexter's moral stance was slightly strange on this one. Yes, the doctor is a terrible shrink but there was hardly any conclusive evidence. I guess his moral stance does not play by the law, which may be the whole point of the character.

Rita and Dexter having sex was a big push for Dexter -- I really enjoyed the idea about Dexter being able to open up to the shrink. It shows how much he craves normal human connections without having to fight for his sanity and covering up his identity. What will Rita do if she finds out?

And the Academy Award for Best Killing goes to...
nyomozoo1 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Dexter is the best drama series in 2006, million thanks to Showtime for it. This episode reveals the identity of the mysterious Ice Truck Killer, which wasn't really a big surprise. In fact it was quite obvious, there were clear signs of it in the previous episodes. Apart from the big unveiling, the episode is about Dexter's feelings towards Rita, and about Debrah's new relationship with her new boyfriend. I liked the high number of sex scenes. All of them was beautifully photographed, a big high-five for the crew of Dexter. These sex scenes got the second place in my all-time favourite sex scenes after Carnivále's famous scene between Sofie and Ben in the middle of the second season.

I absolutely love the writing, except for one thing.
ryleeforeman25 November 2019
All of the episodes leading up to this have had me on the edge of my seat. I love the psychological drama, and I love the mystery of the Ice-Truck killer.

Except for when it's no longer a mystery.

The writing laid out masterfully crafted pieces of the puzzle for the viewer to discern who the killer was. I picked up on them and the possibility of solving the mystery had me thrilled.

Then the writing threw the mystery right out the door by revealing the truth too quickly. I would've liked more suspense until the mystery was solved by Dexter, but now the resolution feels a bit cheap.

I still love this show, even with this little bump in the road, and will likely love the next 3 seasons even more.

Episode about consequences

Dexter: You helped me to accept what I really am. I'm grateful that. But I was raised with a certain set of principles. I am sorry, Doc. Action have consequences, and this is yours.

Dexter: I can't kill Dr. Meridien yet. I still need another therapy session.
antisocial125 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
The suicide of a wealthy and powerful businesswoman leads Dexter to suspect that her psychologist may have killed her. But Dexter gets a surprise of his own when he pays a visit to the suspect, Dr. Meridian, which he gets Dexter to open up dark secrets from his past.

Harry teaches Dex entry points, how not to be seen. Harry: This isn't suppose to be fun Dexter. (love flashbacks)

Dunno why Neil Perry says he knows how Laguerta got promoted, obviously that's gonna tip the idea that he read the reports, especially since when he came in before he was talking tech.

If your gonna have sex scenes at least show some nudity geez.

Cool transition with "Make Me Lose Control" playing and Dex drills into the psychologist and then Deb singing the chorus.

One of the worst episodes so far
skay_baltimore2 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
1. The "consummation" of the relationship between Dexter and Rita was downright depressing. Two totally screwed up people trying to "fix" each other? And they talk about Disney fairy tale endings. What a total crock.

2. Then there's the cornball confession of the fake Ice Truck Killer.

3. Then there's the love affair between Debra and the real I.T.K. (At least here's the first clue as to her hidden desire to be with Dexter in more than a brother-sister way. For the first time in her life she feels something more than just f*cking during intercourse. And it's with a person who's as close to Dexter as there could possibly be.)

4. Then there's the nonsense about Dexter finding the laptop with all the incriminating evidence right there on the therapist's desk.

And on. And on. And on. How people can say that the first couple of seasons of Dexter are the best is beyond me, especially if THIS episode is taken into consideration. I'm not even sure 12 year olds would find this crap palatable. But, unfortunately, apparently, they do.

The Ice Truck Killer Exposed
panagiotis19939 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My Reaction / Review for Dexter Season 1 Episode 8 ''Shrink Wrap'' (S1. E8): Episode 7 was awesome and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Seems like Dexter found his next victim, a therapist. There is something off about this doctor Deb is dating. It's so obvious that the guy they have is not the real killer. I wonder when the real ice truck killer will kill again. This psychiatrist is a psycho, I hope Dex will do the right thing. How many times Dex will be able to avoid sex before Rita realizes what's going on. Finally Dex and Rita do the thing. I thought that Dex got rid of all his tools. Did he buy new ones already? Nice. I knew there was something off about the doctor Deb is dating. He is the ice truck killer! Amazing episode overall, my rating is 9/10.

Gross
Jimbo_248 October 2022
Too much canoodling, too much lovers sweating, lovemaking, hugging, murmuring sweet nothings, and people getting intimate all throughout. Not to mention the constant close-ups on people's faces the director obviously thinks are a good idea.

Those who like expressions of love and human intimacy, emotional closeness, and people's faces up close will be delighted. For those who are grossed out by this stuff, however, it will be unpleasant.

Also, I thought the reason Dexter wouldn't do it was because sex just didn't mean much to him, not because he feared she would "see his soul" or something. The writers seemed to have taken a turn in this one.

So bad, So far!
ahmxii16 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
So the ending was supposed to be the biggest reveal in the history of tv huh? I already guessed actual killer as soon as he appeared on the screen as a Doctor maybe in episode 5. Further my guess was confirmed when they mentions that he makes the prosthetic limbs and he studied human body. Like tf who couldn't tell it? I seriously doubt that the fanbase of this show have actual brains.

Secondly, they show that Dexter's sister didn't feel the love and special connection with anyone else before, like she's feeling with the Doctor (actual killer).

That makes me think of my another guess that the Doctor ( the killer) is also the brother of Dexter, because that way it only makes sense. It explains the obsession they have with eachother. Also Dexter's sister might be sensing that special connection with the Doctor because of Dexter, (her brother, the only closest relative alive). That would make both of the killers also the brothers. One kills good other kills bad. At least that would be the next move of a lowly class writer.

Also, Rita's husband Paul's character isn't written well. Like guy's been out of jail, and he sees Dexter f-king his wife and he's cool with it. Not only cool he's been acting like a unreal amount of cowardly beta cuk. Did he really went to jail and used to abuse his wife?

Even as a normal person. Would you be cool if your wife's boyfriend stops you from meeting your own kids and doesn't let you into the house, the house that you own?

All I'm saying that this show isn't that great people say it is. Not even good. It's full of expected surprises, and bulsiht writing. I'm really not enjoying.

I'll be expecting spam downvotes from 2 iq fans of this show.
