Bar-room brawling

Episode 207 is a lot of fun, featuring as it does the Willie Loomis storyline coming to a head of sorts. The set-piece sequence in the bar is a lot of fun and perhaps contains the first proper fight scene of the series, at least that I can remember. It's great fun to see Burke - my favourite character in the show - cast in the white knight role - and John Karlen proves effective as the messed-up Willie.

Even if not a great episode, a necessary one.

Warning: Spoilers
The purpose of this episode is to show the growing animosity between Burke and Willie, resulting in probably the most exciting moment at the Blue Whale since the series began. Sam, Maggie and Joe are there when Willie walks in with Jason, indicating his hatred of Burke. Jason says that they need Burke because in spite of his incarceration, he's one of the wealthiest men in town. Willie's fascinated over the fact that Burke has a rap sheet, and when Burke walks in, this results in friction that starts a fight, causing Willie to pull out a knife. But Burke has one up on him, and Jason decides to try to get Willie to peacefully leave town. Of course, that will take money and Willie refuses to leave without it.

We are getting to see Burke become a bit more protective of the people of Collinsport, and the two newcomers in his mind are not welcome. It's obvious that Burke, having settled the issue with the Collins family, doesn't have a need for vengeance anymore, and he has switched from villain to anti-hero to all out good guy who still has a temper that could destroy him. Even though the same music is played on the jukebox, here it doesn't matter because it's about the drama behind the minor stuff, and it's episodes like this that make you want to tune in to see the tension build and how it will play out.
