"Speak of Angels and They Appear"
wes-connors16 November 2011
Again leaving Collinwood without permission, David (David Henesy) has sneaked into Burke's hotel room. David tells Burke he is convinced Roger killed Malloy; voices (ghosts) have confirmed this, according to David. Nevertheless, Sheriff Patterson (Dana Elcar) revealed to Liz (Joan Bennett) last episode that the coroner's report was "accidental death due to drowning." Everyone is relieved except Burke. Upon hearing the news, Roger (Louis Edmonds) is overjoyed. Carolyn also visits Burke, and mentions the fountain pen she received as a gift from Burke. She thinks Burke has the fountain pen because Roger took it from her to return (to Burke) the night Malloy died...

Annoying and endearing

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 74 is something of an annoying one as it features Roger endlessly crowing about the coroner's report which has ruled that Malloy's death was an accident. The most interesting - and even endearing - part of the episode is the continued bonding between Burke and David, as unlikely a pair of characters as ever you saw.

A bratty cousin steals the scenery.

Warning: Spoilers
In what could have been a scene from a teen Disney comedy, this episode is highlighted by the performance of David Henesy who runs out on Aunt Elizabeth to visit Burke Devlin and ends up hanging around when cousin Carolyn comes to visit him. Like any pesky kid, he sticks around which irritates Carolyn to no end. Carolyn is there to tell him the good news, that Bill Malloy's death was declared accidental and that no charges are going to be filed against anyone for his murder. This of course angers Burke who wants revenge against Roger in the biggest way. The episode has Roger in a cheery mood gloating to Elizabeth that their nightmare is all over, but little do they realize that it is only just beginning. Good writing for the Burke/Carolyn/David scenes build to a finale where Burke confronts the sheriff over the decision and vows to stick around for further developments. An enjoyable episode, but not one of the classics.
