"I Came Up This Hill to Cut Your Heart Out"
wes-connors25 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Roger (Louis Edmonds) enters Collinwood as Burke (Mitchell Ryan) is waiting in the drawing room with Liz (Joan Bennett). The adversarial men have their first meeting in ten years. Burke deceptively tells Roger he wants to let "bygones be bygones." We learn a good deal about the events of 1956. Burke tells how he was released from prison after five years, for "good behavior," then made his fortune traveling the world. Meanwhile, Vicki (Alexandra Moltke) visits Matthew (George Mitchell) with ulterior motives, which includes some great location footage of the Collins grounds. Later, she catches Burke in the garage with a wrench in his hand, admiring Roger's car...

After two poorly constructed episodes, which seem to have been ordered only to fill a quota, the series gets back on track. A button was located and sewn back on Vicki's overcoat (this episode was taped after the previous one). Vicki, by the way, is barking up the wrong tree when trying to determine if Matthew Morgan was responsible for sending those monthly checks postmarked Bangor (she should be suspecting the route could be Bill Malloy). The romance between Burke and Laura is alluded to, along with the fact that Roger married her the day after Burke's manslaughter conviction, then moved to Augusta and returned about a month ago. A "set up" continues...

The big showdown
Leofwine_draca12 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 13 sees the show getting back on track after a slow handful of episodes. This time around, the focus is on the long-awaited meeting between Roger Collins and Burke Devlin which is worth the wait: full of subtle threats, revealing discussion, and a bubbling undercurrent of animosity. It turns out that Devlin was sent to prison for killing a man based on Roger's testimony against him. Elsewhere, Victoria continues her questioning of the servant Matthew, but learns little. Devlin dominates this episode and actor Mitchell Ryan handles his scenes very well.

Not a really friendly reunion.
mark.waltz27 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It is learned through Roger and Burke's reunion that Burke once had a relationship with Roger's late wife, Laura. Victoria seeks out info from groundskeeper Matthew, obviously against Elizabeth's wishes, but it's not for the reasons that Victoria thinks when Matthew orders her out. Roger shows some vulnerability in reflecting on the psst. Viewers of "All My Children" will recollect that Louis Edmunds and Mitchell Ryan later crossed paths when Ryan played the ruthless Alex Hunter.
