Things Begin to Fall Apart!
g-bodyl28 December 2013
In another fabulous, tense episode of Dexter, we see that the stakes are higher and that the tension is about to reach the peak after the incidents in this episode. The acting hasn't been better and the story hasn't been better. After the ending of this episode, I just want more and more. That talks about the quality of these episodes and just how good and addictive they are.

This episode, "Return to Sender" has Dexter staring more and more into danger. The Ice Truck Killer takes Dexter's most recent victim and puts him at the scene of the crime where the victim was murdered. Now Dexter must do everything he can to avoid being caught by his own police department.

Overall, this is a very good, thrilling episode. I liked the fact how now we get to see some things from Debra's point of view and we see some more flashbacks between the two. This episode is also about the relations between brother and sister and how they turn a little sour with this episode. I rate this episode 9/10.

This episode was riveting
skay_baltimore2 September 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Unlike some of the previous episodes "Return To Sender" really nailed it. For the first time Dexter was careless and there was a witness -- a small child who had been hiding in the trunk of a car in the junk yard where the murders took place.

The Ice Truck Killer is still toying with Dexter, but that really took a back seat in this episode. The real suspense throughout -- the one that kept me on the edge of my seat -- had to do with Dexter's vulnerability. And it was palpable.

"Return To Sender" also develops the early childhood-to-current relationship between Dexter and Debbie. It also showed a more tender side of Lt. Laguerta -- as she interacted with the boy/eye witness.

Additionally Doakes ends up bringing Debbie to dinner at his mother's house where she meets his sisters as well. I can't say it showed a more tender side of Doakes, but it did manage to show a more human side.

If all of the rest of the episodes are this good, the series has turned the corner. It remains to be seen.

For the first time, Dexter fears he will be caught.
chillwill9221 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Dexter discovers that the Ice Truck Killer set him up, retrieving one of his disposed corpses and putting it front and center for Miami Metro to see. In addition, a possible witness was on the scene, a lethal combination that could potentially spell doom for our favorite serial killer. For possibly the first time in his life, Dexter is afraid, and he desperately attempts to save himself from discovery. This fear opens a humanity in Dexter that we really haven't seen before, and it's nice to see him as something other than a complete sociopath. In addition, the flashback flesh out Dexter and Deb's sibling relationship, and a previously-unseen resentment rises to the surface. In terms of the episodes to this point, this is the best episode since the pilot.

The World of Lies Falling Apart
claudio_carvalho18 June 2009
While having breakfast with Rita and the children on the day of Astor's birthday, Dexter is called by cellular and asked to return to Jorge Castillo's junkyard. He finds that the Ice Truck Killer had dived 30 m below the sea level and brought the corpse of Valerie Castillo back to the crime scene. Further and to make his situation worst, a Cuban boy has witnessed the killer from the truck of a Mercedes Benz; and Vince Masuka has found the needle prick on the neck of Valerie and investigated the list of supplies of the powerful anesthetic. Dexter feels that his world of lies is falling apart and nothing lasts forever. Meanwhile Paul is released from prison and tells Rita that he will come to Astor's birthday party, disturbing Rita en her family. However she takes an attitude to resolve the situation with her family. Meanwhile Dexter gets rid of his arsenal but suddenly he discovers that the Ice Truck Killer is playing a prank with him and he decides to forge evidences to incriminate Jorge.

In this great episode, Dexter gets in serious troubles when the Ice Truck Killer plays a sick game with him. Rita shows that she is stronger and capable to fight to protect her daughter and her son from he cracked husband. Debra proves that she is an excellent detective developing the perfect profile of the criminal. Unfortunately Dexter has to destroy her discoveries to save him. Lt. Maria Laguerta shows a different attitude with the treatment she spends to the Cuban boy. The unexpected last scene with the picture described by the boy is tense and funny. My vote is nine.

The noose tightens
Fluke_Skywalker14 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Plot; When the disposed body of one of his victims shows back up at the crime scene, Dexter feels it's only a matter of time before he's discovered.

Watching Dexter squirm as his carefully crafted double life threatens to crumble was surprisingly tense. Here you have a serial killer that you're rooting for to not get caught. Meanwhile supporting characters all manage to get meaningful personal moments w/o it merely feeling they're being thrown bones.

I was on edge

Warning: Spoilers
Of course Dexter wouldn't actually get caught and because that would be the end of the show. Even though I know that, it was the first time for the audience to see him in actual danger and feel anxiety and fear. That it in self is a bonding experience between Dexter and the audience.

Great episode overall.

Dexter's Anxiety [9/10]
panagiotis19938 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My Reaction / Review for Dexter Season 1 Episode 6 ''Return to Sender'' (S1. E6): Episode 5 was awesome and I gave it a rating of 9.2/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. So did the ice truck killer go underwater to get the dead body and put it back where Dex killed them? Dex seems to be very anxious, could the police use this information to get closer to the truth of who killed Castillo and his wife? Masuka has some really solid information. Dex now has nightmares. The profile that Deb made sounds like Dexter haha. Dex is getting rid of his weapons? It seems like he is ready for the worst scenario possible. So the person that the little boy saw was Jesus Christ? I didn't expect that. At least it isnt Dexter. Overall a great episode, my rating is 9/10.

Dexter His Kill
ZegMaarJus30 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode begins with Dexter, he flushed a goldfish trough the toilet. A new body has been found, on the place where Dexter killed Jorge and Valerie. Valerie Castillo is the one dead body at the crime scene, Dexter did this. Oscar was in the trunk and saw that Dexter poisoined Valerie. Dexter throws his killing materials in the sea. Astor her birthday party is, with her friends and family. Nice episode of Dexter Season 1, an average episode of Dexter. This series is cruel and nice at the same time. Nice to watch!

Dexter: Rita will be devastated if I'm arrested. Her husband was a crack-head and her boyfriend's a serial killer. Hard not to take that personally.
antisocial123 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Masuka is persistent and on his game. Dex: Nice. ;]

Dex says he doesn't care but he really does. He monologues that he shouldn't be there, that Rita will be devastated if she finds out he is a serial killer. He also shouldn't feel guilty for trying to sway Deb off her profile theory and for planting evidence, he has helped Deb get to where she is, and without his help her theories wouldn't even matter. Not that she isn't a hard worker.

The excitement in this episode is a little sapped, perhaps I've seen it too many times and that nothing really eventuates from it. Laguerta and the Cuban boy are quite annoying, they add music for it as well, it is so over the top.

Common sense isn't the greatest strength of this show.!
ahmxii15 March 2024
This episode doesn't make any sense at all. The fake tension this episode tried to make, do we really think that Dexter "the main character's" gonna get caught before the season ends?. Also, the reveal of Cuban kid's Jesus sketch was sure comical but it doesn't make any sense and why is everyone is so SHOCKED looking at the sketch before it was revealed that the Dexter was not in that sketch. Like I said it's a miserable attempt to force suspense.

I get that all of this wasn't considered a problem, in the time frame it was made. People infact used to love these cliches. But fans of this show shouldn't sell this as a quality show in the present time. Let alone calling it GOAT. I agree there are some good aspects of this show, others had already mentioned them. But I'm here to RANTT!!

IMDB should reassess the show's total average rating to prevent misleading. Currently it's 8.7 out 10 like really?

What's even more interesting is, this episode alone have a total of 9 reviews out of 7k people who rated this episode. Which indicates that either the ratings are fake or they are old.... Nevertheless, 8.9 isn't justified for this episode in any shape or form.
