Family Saga-Emotional. Three Mothers.

I totally disagree with "Mr. Telenovela Ltd" This Movie is Enjoyable and Moving. Triplets is more complicated than twins! Triplets Rose, Flora and Yasmin were born in Alexandria Egypt and King Farouk came at their birth in 1942. In 2006 in Israel, Jasmine needs a kidney transplant. This and the Family Saga are given to us including Anwar Saadat's break thru visit to the Knesset in November 1977. Rose is a successful singer and Gila Almagor and Miri Messika make moving singing. (A bit like the Famous Zehava Ben). Israeli Time-Out gives 4 out of 5 points for this very original Movie. Dina Zvi-Riklis based it on her own Autobiography. It is like a Greek Tragedy or Egyptian Tragi-Drama. I saw it on a cold day, and it was well worth going to the cinema for this. I also had Family who lived in Alexandria and most Mediteranian Countries.

worthwhile and nostalgic

This movie captured the essence of a time no longer in Israel. It was beautifully directed, and the actors really gave a great performance. Yes- It's a little contrived in a bit of a soap opera fashion; but overall it is an interesting film with many moments that tug at your heartstrings. Miri Mesikas melodious voice waves through the film as you step back into the 50's/60's in Israel. It is a simple tale of 3 sisters who live complicated lives. I know that everyone who saw it- my friends, family, and random popcorn-munching moviegoers- were quite impressed with this little gem. What's nice about it- my friends abroad loved it too. If for nothing else- it serves as an interesting film giving the opportunity for observing an exotic form of cultural study. It is basically a story about people from different familial backgrounds and nationalities moving to a country (the Israel of that time) where the rules are different and they have to learn to deal with and accept modernity and loss.

hope you enjoy this film, I know I did.

Telenovela Ltd.

As far as bad Isralei cinema goes, This is one of those populist attempt to ride on some nostalgic waves with the help of a most contrived plot, shallow characters and the presence of one of Israel's most successful singers, Miri Mesika.

Though there are talented people on board (including great work from cinematographer Shai Goldman and veteran actresses Gila Almagor, Rivka Raz and Tracy Abramovich), this movie about the life of a threesome is just a boring Telenovela that got way too much publicity.

There were some good to great movies this year ("Aviva Ahuvati", "Adama Meshuga'at" and - my personal favorite - "Someone to Run With" to name a few). "Three Mothers" is definitely not one of them - unless you are OK with soap opera.
