Naomi Harper is an unhappy woman with her life especially her career. She has married the love of her life in clueless locksmith, Vinton Harper, and still lives with her mother-in-law and her wayward nephew, Bubba. She decides to take classes to become a flight attendant or flying waitress as Mama Harper calls it. In the meantime, Vint feels neglected by his wife's attention to her new career so Iola pays him more attention in getting him to fix up broken items in her home. Mama is all against Naomi becoming a flight attendant until she might be able to get a free trip to Hawaii as a relative of a flight attendant. Of course, Naomi has to pass the test which will determine if she can do more than be a supermarket checker.

Strong Dorothy Lyman episode.

I'm a big fan of Dorothy Lyman (Naomi Harper) from her "All My Children" (Opal) days. So when she's featured on "Mama's Family" it's a real treat. She has a true talent for playing whiny, complaining unhappy but funny characters. She and Ken Berry work fantastically together. Ken Berry (Vinton Harper) playing an imbecile delivers one corny line after another. But, he pulls it off and is quite funny. A stellar series script again give all cast members room to shine. Another idiot Bubba (Allan Kayser) on the debate team is a funny disaster. Iola (Beverly Archer) inkling her way trying to steal Vint from Naomi never fails to be hilarious. How truly comedically talented Beverly Archer is. One of the better episodes knowing all along Naomi's stewardess hopes will crumble.
