Sequentially, "Decisions: Part 1" should have come at the end of the second season of "The Paper Chase". This is because the show is set right before Golden's graduation...and he's stuck making choices. First, he has two choices for his first job post-law school...and one is very prestigious and the other feels more interesting. And, he needs to nominate a successor to head "Law Review"....and the students are all vying for this job. Ford's brother is now applying to law school...and Ford is not happy as he feels an inferiority complex concerning his younger brother. And finally, Kingsfield is trying to get a lady to join the faculty...but she is very reticent.
This is a very good episode for Golden (Michael Tucci). Up until now, he's mostly been tough, annoying and a bit like a guy with Asperger's....with little in the way of social skills. Here, however, he's vulnerable...and his dilemma about his first job is a great one...as he needs to learn what is more important...prestige or personal satisfaction. Overall, you can really see the many changes Showtime had in store for the series...and they look very interesting.
By the way, if you read Tucci's IMDB profile, you can see that this episode hit really close to home as Tucci WAS an assistant district attorney...and found he hated the job!
