Beautiful & emotional
metermirre28 December 2006
Paphos and Galatea is a beautiful and emotional film by Philip Koch! The actors are wonderful, you really feel the passion between them and you also feel the mystery of this Greek myth.

There is a part that is my favorite: a close picture of Paphos and Galateas squeezing hands..., I just love it!! The music fits this silent film perfectly and the black and white photo is so beautiful with a fantastic light! Philip has a great energy to tell a good story and also a sensitivity to make it emotional and beautiful! The reason why I vote 7 and not 10 for Paphos and Galatea is because I know that Philip Koch will do a lot more fantastic films, so, I want to save my 10 for the future!!

A Superb Film

Paphos and Galatea is an astounding re-telling of the classic Greek myth. The direction is spare, clear, and crisp. The cinematography is stunning. The acting is terrific.

Dramatic lighting compliments black and white film stock to convey the essence of the relationship between artist and subject. The film moves gracefully between the objective and the subjective experience of the artist. Though the film has a cool veneer, the viewer cannot resist being swept into the experience of the sculptor.

Philip Koch is a remarkable filmmaker with a compelling vision. You will see much more of him in the years to come. Anyone interested in World Cinema will be fascinated by his work.
