Melinda loses her paranormal powers as the result of a bad fall. A young girl is haunted by her dead beau, and wants Melinda's help. Melinda struggles to find a way to help her. The episode starts out with a boatload of spirits seeking Melinda for her help, and the effct is almost comical as she by now knows many of them by name. But it quickly turns tragic when she swerves her car to miss a ghost family standing in the road, and encounters the dead boyfriend in the nearby woods seconds before she falls and cracks her skull. She even loses sight of her ghost dog! Mom comes around, feeling very chipper since Melinda is no longer haunted. The ending is quite conventional for this series, more's the pity.

A Logical Episode

Warning: Spoilers
Eventually there had to be an episode where Melinda loses her power and gets to express anxiety over it. This is the one.
There are some good points, especially the introduction of friction between her and her mother, which only resolves itself a couple seasons later with an absolutely explosive revelation.
One inconsistency is at the beginning when Melinda walks across the town square and sees a plethora of ghosts. That never occurs again.
The loss of the power gets repeated in the final episode of the last season (S5 E22) where again she cannot tell the living from the dead. Perhaps this was to be an omen for story lines in the never produced Season 6.
