It's my party
mitchrmp3 June 2014
Riley is jealous of the apparent relationship Gillis seems to have with his son and decides he needs to try to make Junior his best friend. Knowing his fourteenth birthday is coming up soon, Riley plans a surprise party. Only the surprise is on him when Junior is upset to find out about it, then everyone calls and cancels.

Not one of my favorite episodes. I really expected this one to end a lot differently. I suppose, though, that's it's typical teenage behavior.

Though Babs is missing from this episode, it is implied she's staying the weekend at a friend's house.

Birthday Blues

Riley's (Jackie Gleason) friends have left him feeling that his son Junior (Lanny Rees) doesn't really like him. When Peg (Rosemary Decamp) reminds him that Junior's birthday is coming up, Riley plans a surprise party. When Riley tells Junior about the party he acts as if he doesn't want it, further saddening Riley. Everyone calls to cancel coming to the party so they can go to another party. Junior's girlfriend Marilyn Morris (Ann Burr) calls looking for Junior who is supposed to take her to the other party. Now Riley's outlook is depressed.

I feel the episode fails to sustain interest in the plot. The heart from the previous two episodes seems falsely strained here.
