Piano Bar Blow Darts
DKosty12322 December 2009
Jim West gets blow darted by a mermaid at a seaside bar to start this one out. The bad guy has a submarine and a death ray to aid his efforts as he is after being the ultimate power of the seas in this plot.

The lovely Jocelyn Lane is here to distract West & Artie in this one but in spite of her beauty, they manage to thwart the efforts of the wanna be sea baron. The mechanisms of the death ray, while crude are somewhat effective. It's a good thing Jim & Artie stop it, though the escape from the death ray chamber is a pretty close scrape.

The mermaid is a beauty when she has a blow dart. When she is unarmed, she looks like a sea hag. Just shows that the beauties are far more dangerous than the beasts.

One of my favorites.

Captured the futuristic aspect of WWW well. Marconi invented radio in the not too distant future from WWW and submarines were being experimented with in the 1870s so it wasn't too horrible of a stretch for some diabolical mastermind to jump the gun a few years. I had a problem with the death ray or whatever guarding the room as that was far too advanced to put in an 1870s show, but if you can accept time travel and teleportation in some of the other shows, you can accept this also. Jocelyn Lane and Robert Conrad never looked better in their lives in this show and John Van Dreelen did fine as a WWI type. Jocelyn, wherever you are, call me.

Mermaids can kill

Warning: Spoilers
A cracking episode scripted by Michael Edwards.

Jim is at the Mermaid Tavern in San Francisco, where he sees a beautiful girl dressed as ( what else? ) a mermaid. He is drugged, and wakes up aboard a gambling ship called 'Lady Luck'. With him is the lovely 'Dominique', who is carrying a distinctive-looking compact. Suddenly, Jim spots a fire-breathing sea dragon heading towards the ship. There is an explosion. Jim survives. His wild story is not believed. The S.S. Virginia is due to dock in three days, and aboard is a top naval hero. Jim thinks he is a likely target for assassination...

John Van Dreelen played many Teutonic villains in shows of this era, most notably the 'Death From The Past' episode of 'Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea'. Here he is cast as the 'Marquis de Le Mer', a madman who dreams of founding his own country, and wants to blow up the S.S. Virginia to indicate that he means business. The 'sea dragon' is, in fact, a prototype torpedo. It homes in on Dominique's compact. While Arte tries to get the compact off the girl, Jim swims after the Sea Dragon.

A lively episode with lots of thrilling action, and the sight of Jim imprisoned behind a force-field!
