The politics of he badge
bkoganbing22 July 2020
Good natured Randy Boone gets tricked into helping some bank robbers pull a job and gets arrested by Marshal Ford Rainey. It's up to James Drury to get Boone out of this jackpot. As a mrder was committed during the robbery, Boone is sentenced to hang,

Drury's problem is that Rainey is a legendary lawman of the Wyatt Earp type and the town council refuses to believe he could be wrong. Drury has one potential ally in attorney Adam West. But he's got his own agenda going with political ambitions.

Guest stars Rainey and West shine in this story as does the innocent Randy Boone. There's also a good small cameo role for Shug Fisher as a Buffalo Bill type character.

Time travel?
stephenw-thompson11 February 2021
Always enjoyed any chance the writers gave Randy to sing, but the Hank Williams song he sings in jail was not written until the late 40s and early 50s ( because it was recorded by Luke the Drifter who was Hank Sr.s alterego.)

Good song, just made me think Randy could've used that time travel to escape. LOL.

Between shootouts
pfors-647-50149714 September 2013
Two big shootouts bookend trim morality tale. Craggy Ford Rainey is featured as Marshal Floyd Buckman, a has-been, living on past laurels, who's too stubborn to admit he may have blundered. But unlike the ambitious lawyer who covets his job (played by pre-"Batman" Adam West), Buckman has integrity. The ember of hope that the old star packer's troubled conscience will restore his better nature in time to help The Virginian save Randy from the noose provides most of the plot's dramatic tension. Country character actor Shug Fisher plays an exuberant Buffalo Bill-style huckster who's the polar opposite of the stuffy Buckman. Fisher brings his symbolic character more fully to life than is written in the script.

I love this episode

Ford Rainey is fabulous. The main point is fabulous. Also, another great western that delves into the complications of justice, human frailties and strengths. Well directed.

Warning: Spoilers
Have watched on COZITV,and Starzencore, and love the show.Surprised by this episode actually really featuring Mike Macready,George's son.He seemed quite capable as the deputy to Ford Rainey's sheriff,a past his prime lawman.Adam West plays a lawyer out to take over for Sheriff Buckman, who rally louses up on a bank robbery. His negligence allows a bank robber to knock both himself and Randy out cold, and $4100 out of $47,000 to be stolen,an innocent civilian killed, and a man faking an injury to con Randy into being innocently involved and ultimately accused of murder.I enjoyed this episode, thank God The Virginian came to town to help Randy by posting a reward, and engaging an attorney for his defense.Wish Mike Macready had more roles doing something other than badge-waving,or just standing and looking good!
