"Eileen" was one of Debbie Watson's last acting assignments. By the time she made this episode, probably toward the end of 1968, she was approaching 20 and had a son, aged 1. She was past her Sandra Dee era, when she had starred on "Tammy" on ABC in 1965-66.
No matter. Debbie Watson is the featured guest star in this superb entry in "The Virginian," and she remains as lovely as ever. More importantly, she is one of THE most underrated actresses of the 1960s. You can see this in her face and in her expressions.
Her retirement from performing in 1971 is understandable, given her family responsibilities and her lack of progress in her acting career. But given what I have seen of Ms. Watson, she deserved SO much better!
Interestingly, Doug McClure's character of Trampas is trying to grow a mustache, which is a precursor of what his character would look like in the ninth season, when the show became "The Virginian: Men From Shiloh."
As for the episode itself, it has some interesting twists! Between the plot and Debbie Watson's performance, this deserves 10+/10!
