Oooh, that Stephanie Beacham is bad!!
planktonrules10 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
The episode begins with a report that the Navy may have had dealings with a UFO! However, when Straker tries to get information from Naval authorities, they aren't the least bit cooperative. So, Foster tries to wheedle information out of one of the high muckity-muck's secretaries, Miss Bosanquet (Stephanie Beacham). Well, are they in for a huge surprise, as the secretary is, in fact, controlled by aliens AND she's using an evil alien device to attack SHADO craft!

Overall, a rather interesting episode that's worth seeing. By the way, you may recognize the very young and beautiful Stephanie Beacham as the same lady who played Sable on "The Colbys" and "Dynasty". Once again, she plays someone who is pure evil...but also mega-hot.

I've been watching UFO since last year when l'd found this series on internet and l like it, maybe it was quite old fashion, but works as entertainment too, in this episode commander Striker stays suspicious when the ship of the Navy hit an UFO when was nearby on a secret operation on the sea, so Striker sent Colonel Forster to reach Admiral's secretary to find out something, a young Stephanie Beachman is the secretary and was involved by the UFO's plans, Beachman l recognized by another series Seaquest DSV, fantastic and beauty actress!!

Now the Navy Knows

Warning: Spoilers
1. This was a very interesting episode because someone other than SHADOW (the Royal Navy) was successful in shooting down an alien spacecraft. The Navy ship was in the area because they were preparing to drop special containers into the sea, containers which held a very powerful poison. It is guessed that the aliens were in the area because they were making a practice run to sabotage the dumping operation. 2. When the aliens send a second spacecraft they are able to somehow disable the Navy ship's defensive systems, and they proceed to attack the ship. Fortunately SHADOW comes to the rescue. We see a great reaction from the ship's captain when he sees the Skydiver jet come launching up out of the water. The captain also clearly sees the aliens' spacecraft. HE KNOWS. It's possible that other crew members saw it too. What will SHADOW do to contain this? 3. I have to agree with another reviewer that this episode was made a little more enjoyable due to the appearances of Stephanie Beacham and Wanda Ventham, two ladies who are very easy on the eyes.

Destruction
Prismark102 March 2019
A Royal Navy ship comes across an UFO incident who try to attack the ship.

Foster is just the man to get information out of the lovely Miss Bosanquet (Stephanie Beacham) who is the secretary to the Admiral.

Only Foster finds out that the she is in league with the aliens and they know more than SHADO.

The naval ship has been dumping toxic nerve gas in specially sealed containers which could be extremely hazardous if attacked by aliens.

Seeing both a young Stephanie Beacham and Wanda Ventham in the same episode could send your blood pressure to critical. It certainly is much more appealing than watching Straker and Foster play golf.

The model work of the UFO craft is far from satisfactory but this is a serviceable episode. Straker notes how many people like Miss Bosanquet are out there. This could had been a reference to Soviet moles at the time.

Phillip Madoc

Seems odd that Phillip Madoc would play two different characters in episodes that were filmed only 3 months apart.

Did they expect the viewers not to remember?

Another UFO clunker.

Warning: Spoilers
"Destruction" shows up, once again, that a fault with "UFO" and other Gerry Anderson shows was that the men who wrote the stories were too often guilty of not singing from the same hymn book.

In the opening episode, we had an alien die in Shadow Control's medical centre and the following autopsy showed that the alien had numerous transplants, including one forcibly "donated" by Captain Carlin's sister. The reason for alien incursions seemingly being to harvest organs from humans and Straker even suggested that the aliens viewed humans like a farmer views his pigs, not with malice but with detachment. Dr Jackson later suggests that the aliens have no physical form thus they need humans so they can take over their bodies completely.

In "Destruction" we have the Royal Navy trying to dump a chemical weapon, so dangerous that it'd destroy all forms of life on the planet, into an underwater trench. The containers are designed to last for hundreds of years, by which time, the poison would be harmless. Cue a UFO attacking the ship and the canisters of gas as they fall into the ocean. The aliens suddenly want to inherit a planet devoid of any life?? It rather reminds me of the Dracula film where the poor chap is so tired of being raised from the dead that he plans to poison the entire population with an updated form of The Black Death.

A serious matter
lor_5 September 2023
A suspenseful segment involving a Navy ship shooting down a UFO, quite apart from any of SHADO's activities, made public in newspaper coverage. Ed starts an investigation but is stonewalled, only making him more interested in finding out what really happened.

The focus is more on Earthly matters, such as cover-ups and treachery, but never fear, one shot of Beacham's magnificent rack and we know that even though she's just a secretary in the admiralty she will emerge as the key to unraveling what the invaders are really up to. (while also finding time to be Billington's romantic interest of the week).

More episodes like this one (far closer to entertainment aimed at an adult audience rather than an extension of the Andersons' kiddie shows) and perhaps UFO could have been a hit!
