***SPOILERS*** Mike Connors is undercover agent Nick Stone on loan to the local police to crack a protection ring headed by mob boss Marty Pandora, George Tobias, that's shaking down and terrorizing local business in the city. Putting on an act as a tough guy who takes no bull from anyone not even Pandora's top enforcer Charlie Carson, Leo Gordon, whom he put away in short order at a local restaurant. Nick gets the attention of Pandora in working for him as his top, replacing Charlie, arm leg and head buster.

Slowly getting the goods on Pandora's criminal organization for the police Nick is later told by him to burn down a local business for refusing to pay him off with protection money. It's there where Charlie who feels left out, After Nick took over his job, gets the bright idea to ice or knock off Pandora and takes control of his criminal organization. It's that in Charlie's opinion is that he's gotten a bit too soft in the head in him wanting to avoid having anyone killed or burned alive in getting the job done.

****SPOILERS**** Nick playing both sides of the coin rats Charlie out to Pandora and at the same time lets the police know what he's planning in order to prevent him from carrying out his plan. With Nick in taken care of by Pandora's boys the cops raid his office having him make a run for it straight into Nick's hotel room. It's there where Pandora in knowing he now has nothing to lose attempts to gun Nick down in an act of cold blooded revenge. Either Pandora was drunk or having trouble breaking in the new pair of shoes he was wearing-Or slipping on a banana peal- he ends up flopping down on the floor and being shot by Nick before he could get of a shot off!
