Full of Action Conclusion
claudio_carvalho6 November 2015
Hathor threatens Jack, Sam and Daniel with a symbiotic that chooses Jack to be his host. Meanwhile General Hammond learns that the SG-1 has been captured and sends four SGs to rescue the SG-1; however they are ambushed by the goa'uld. Teal'c has difficulties to recruit Jaffas to fight against the goa'uld. But he succeeds and travels with his men to rescue Jack. But soon the battle begins.

"Into the Fire" is a full of action conclusion, with great plot points. General Hammond participating of the fight is one of the best moments. In the end, the good guys win. My vote is eight.

Enjoyable action, but it is a bit too contrived for my liking.

Warning: Spoilers
The thing about fiction is that if you think about it too much, you can see that in reality everything probably wouldn't happen like it does in the story. BUT if it is a good story, we are all willing to suspend our disbelief.

This episode has a good story, but there are a few things that don't quite work for me.

1. Hathor is very weak. Suanne Braun is a beautiful woman, and her character had a lot of potential, so I wish the writers had done much more with her. Her death was not very satisfactory, although it is possible they will bring her back again in subsequent episodes. The "death" of Apophis, an episode or so earlier, was also inconclusive, and that was both a positive and a negative too.

2. I didn't understand the logic behind the Goa'uld facility. They had made it look like the SGC, but they had also installed a powerful shield generator to protect the stargate and the surrounding area. It didn't really make much sense, IMO.

3. It is hard to believe that the Goa'uld wouldn't just wipe out the teams from the SGC. We are told that they were trapped in the tunnels, but that they also had to hold out against the Goa'uld for about 6 hours. It didn't seem likely that they would be able to last that long!

Overall, I will try to forget the details of the plot, and just accept that the SGC once again came out on top. And I will accept that the battle against the Goa'uld will continue!

Solid episode and an action packed start to season three. The effects and sets felt authentic and the action kept up throughout. Decent acting and some great moments.

Warning: Spoilers
I liked this episode. At the end, Don Davis, who plays General Hammond yells "Ye-hah!" after shooting and destroying a gun position. His character reminds me (a little bit) of Slim Pickens; the wonderful cowboy-turned-actor from many films; notably Stanley Kubrick's dark comedy "Dr. Strangelove" (1964) starring Peter Sellers, George C. Scott and many other great actors. Also Pickens was well cast in Sam Peckinpah's "The Getaway" (1972) starring (screen icon) Steve McQueen and his costar (turned wife) Ali MacGraw. This show, I leave to you.
