Something's Missing
safeJ3 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The Team emerges from the Gate to find themselves inside what appears to be an ancient Greek or older temple. After a brief history lesson from Daniel, we hear a woman screaming, apparently in pain. After Sam's pointed remark, "Don't look at me," Daniel ultimately comes to the rescue, helping birth a baby. In the village we find the "Chosen People," all apparently in their 20's or younger. They're partying and feasting, and having a grand time, culminating in the Colonel being "picked" by "Kynthia" for something special.

The overall story is good, with some excellent words of wisdom between the now elderly Colonel and Kynthia. However, there's one big question: Who supplies these people with what they need? Where's the food come from, or the fancy cloth for their costumes? Surely these young people don't farm or otherwise manage the practical necessities of life. Did their god, Pelops, leave supplies for the many generations to come? Or did Pelops supply the Chosen with a replicator? After I saw the show, this void continued to gnaw on me. Also, nobody seemed to catch the significance of the baby's birthmark as similar-shaped objects were noted in the blood samples.

Disappointing Conclusion
claudio_carvalho23 April 2015
Colonel O'Neil, Sam, Daniel and Teal'c arrive on Planet Argos inside a temple and Daniel helps a young couple to deliver a baby. Alekos and his wife Thetys explain to the team that they worship god Pelops and they bring the SG-1 to celebrate in their village. O'Neil eats a piece of Cake delivered by the gorgeous Kynthia and he is seduced by her, and they have one night stand. At sunset, all inhabitants and O'Neil fall sleep and Sam discover that the natives' lifespan is only one hundred days. Further, Sam and Teal'c find that the residents have been submitted to a genetic experiment by Pelops to age 250 times faster than the usual to study their evolution. But O'Neil is also affected and is aging in an accelerated rating. Sam, Daniel and Teal'c return to Earth to try to find a cure.

"Brief Candle" is a great episode of "Stargate SG-1'. Unfortunately the conclusion is very disappointing with no clear explanation why Jack O'Neil will regress to his actual age while the natives will only stop aging. My vote is seven.

Jack is getting older
trashgang27 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This episode opens with the SG-1 team arriving in a temple for the hero Pelops on the planet Argos. Immediately Daniel has to help to deliver a baby for a Chosen couple. To celebrate Jack comes in contact with Kynthia who falls for Jack and give him some kind of cake. Jack eats it but the cake is a sign that he is going to be married.

In the meanwhile Teal'c and Daniel discover that the people of Argos have a fast life circle. For some reason jack is starting to get older and older in a super fast cycles. Within 2 weeks he's over 100 years old.

It's up to earth to solve the problem via the SG-1 team. It's an excellent story with some very good effects with the face of Jack getting older and older. In the meanwhile Jack also discover what is wrong with the statue of Pelops.

This episode delivers finally what it should do. There's indeed a bit of science-fiction going on and the Carter being a bit of jealous when Jack has sex with Kynthia sets something between both of them. I said it before but it again shows that Stargate is a low budget series. The planet just looks like earth...again. But that isn't a problem, remember Star Trek...

Shaky science
Calicodreamin5 January 2022
While this definitely hit me in the feels, the science was a bit too shaky to be believable. The costuming and set design felt authentic, except for the laurel headbands, those were too on the nose.

A planet of joy :)

A planet of joy :)

Really interesting. There are some nonlogical things. Such as, why are not there old people or how do they get food, water and other things.

But still it is good episode. I could not imagine such a planet and cause of that aging.

Thousands of days :) It is really touching.
