Sounds Sinister

This episode would equally had been at home with The Professionals.

A pirate radio station is targeting celebrities and prominent businessmen with salacious gossip.

The gossip while malicious is also true. One man commits suicide and Special Branch has been called in.

Craven tries to track down where the station is being broadcast from. However he also needs to find out just where all this embarrassing information has come from.

Haggerty goes undercover at a pub near the broadcast site. He takes an interest in some left wing radicals who could be behind the radio station.

A psychiatrist to the great and the good also proves to be a useful link.

Sounds Sinister is an episode that seems ahead of its time. It is not too far from the world of Wikileaks.

It was good to see Craven and Haggerty getting on well. They seems to be a tight team now. Strand also has settled in well with just a hint of being Machiavellian.

Warning: Spoilers
The Special Branch team are tasked to track down the source of pirate radio broadcasts that reveal apparently true, but embarrassing, information about individuals. The suicide of a businessman as a result of revelations broadcast by the pirate broadcast leads to an acceleration of the pace of the investigation. Overall this episode, like many in Series 4, has the pace, direction, production and acting quality of 'The Sweeney' Series 1, also by Thames Television.
