Episode 71 begins with Jessica ready to leave the hospital,with Chester,Dr.Hill,Dr.Alan Posner,and E.Ronald Mallu all fighting for her attention until she informs them all that she wants to live her own life her own way(only Chester remained on the show).Corinne bids her mother goodbye,off to California to start a better life(because Diana Canova got a show of her own,I'M A BIG GIRL NOW,which was cancelled before SOAP was).Polly(in Lynne Moody's farewell appearance)tells Danny that she can't marry him because she's not in love with him,leaving him devastated and suicidal(Danny:"I'm dead from the waist up...it's hard to hear when your brain has passed away." Burt:"nobody knows that better than you Dan!").Mary arrives home with the new baby,but the celebration turns sour when Sheriff Burt refuses to knuckle under to the blackmailing Tibbs,who vows to send the filthy photos to all the newspapers(Burt has one more thing to say into the phone,but after several priceless faces,all he can do is stick out his tongue!) Burt reveals that little Scott was named for his great grandfather,to which Danny replies "no kidding,what was his name?" The entire evening ends abruptly with the shocking kidnapping of Jodie's daughter Wendy.
