Not creepy or tangled enough

Will admit to never being particularly crazy about "A Creepy Tangle in the Bermuda Triangle" when younger. It definitely had moments and it started off very well, but even as a child it came over as predictable and easily forgettable that was fairly bland compared to most episodes of 'The Scooby Doo Show'. It is a shame because it was a great idea and the Bermuda Triangle is as creepy a setting as one can get. Always did appreciate at how Season 3 got more exotic with their locations.

Sadly, my feelings as a young adult on "A Creepy Tangle in the Bermuda Triangle" are pretty much the same now. It is not one of the 'The Scooby Doo Show' classics and there are better episodes of Season 3. Such as "To Switch a Witch", "The Creepy Case of Old Iron Face" (both personal favourites) and "Make a Beeline Away from This Feline". It is also not one of the worst, it is much better than "The Diabolical Disc Demon", "The Warlock of Wimbledon" and "Don't Go Near the Fortress of Fear". If anything it's in the in between middle of the road category.

"A Creepy Tangle in the Bermuda Triangle" does have a good deal of good things and it is the good things that will be started off with. The more polished look in the animation seen in "Watch Out! The Willawaw" remains here, the colours are even more vibrant and atmospheric, the backgrounds are more detailed and the drawing is quite a bit smoother than what was seen in the drawing in Seasons 1 and 2. Also do like that the music doesn't stray too far from the feel of the original show but in Season 3 of this show especially this aspect has more of its own identity and has less recycled cues. The theme song is still very catchy.

The writing has its moments. Shaggy and Scooby are so so amusing and endearing in how they interact together and when gathering up clues the gang's dialogue intrigues. Personally found the story quite patchy, but thought that "A Creepy Tangle in the Bermuda Triangle" started off very well. The beginning is quite creepy and sets things up intriguingly. Diablo Island is a place nobody wants to go at night. The Sea Dog is also creepy and makes far more of an impact than the Skeleton Men. The gang are well characterised and work cohesively. The voice acting is as ever solid.

Most of the story however didn't really grab or impress me. The mystery doesn't really have a lot to it, the charm and spooky atmosphere isn't there enough, and due to having a fair share of familiar tropes there are few surprises too. The pace also felt on the dull side in particularly the slightly plotted middle section. Which always made the episode rather bland and run of the mill.

Was underwhelmed by the Skeleton Men, not a recent thought by the way. Felt this way as a child. Personality wise they are not scary or interesting, quite vanilla and they look goofy rather than sinister. The Sea Dog makes far more of an impression and his role is quite a bit smaller. Although the lead up to the ending was quite good, the final solution is a let down and one of the show's worst in my view. Found most of it quite obvious as a child, as the ideas it has are not innovative. As a young adult, not only is it predictable it is also one of the few final solutions of the show that doesn't make sense to the point of impossibility. One is led to believe that the responsible is someone else and that would have been a lot more plausible, here there are things not explained (especially why the perpetrator did what they did to what belongs to them) and it is a rare case for the show where one of the responsible is seen in two places at once.

On the whole, has its moments but forgettable with a very disappointing ending. 6/10.

shame some idiot keeps wanting inferior episode photos

A classic episode with iconic villains but some moron prefers to have a fuzzy photo of a plane as the main episode photo lol.
