This episode has a more serious and violent tone than usual. The sheriff was running for mayor until Roy and Pat find him stabbed and seriously wounded. Then Roy captures a young punk (Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer) who tries to bushwhack him. The punk is then killed by a thrown knife while at the jail. Roy suspects the Shadow Gang is behind this and that the remaining candidate for mayor, Jase Lawson Myron Healy), may be involved with them. A seemingly simpleton handyman, Seth Tinker, is always hanging around. Pat is going to introduce the new mayor to the town and his speechifying practice provides the only comic relief in this otherwise fairly serious episode.
