Experienced hotelier Virginia Carpenter calls on the services of Randall and Hopkirk after a series of unexplained deaths at her hotel, which is also haunted by various ghosts, the faceless woman and burning man.
It always surprised me somewhat that this show got a second series, it was so away from what The BBC were doing at the time, but I'm glad they did, Series two on the whole was better than the first.
This opening episode is a very good one, big and brash, it has an end of series feel to it, a well imagined story, great set of characters, and some updated special effects. There's a bit more of a horror vibe here, the Faceless woman looks wonderfully macabre.
Good to see that Marty is reintroduced into Jeff's life, he was made to forget him, his big introduction scene was good.
A grand cast, Hywel Williams, a young David Walliams, Mona Hammond and Janet Henfrey are all good, Nichola McAuliffe stole it for me as the hotelier.
'It's all in a day's work for the experienced hotelier.'
Good start to series 2.
8/10.
