Itching to leave vice....
planktonrules30 September 2017
This is the second and final episode of "Police Story" starring James Farentino as Officer Charlie Czonka. Previously, Czonka had been in "Dangerous Games" in season one.

When the show begins, one of Detective Czonka arrives on scene where a prostitute is threatening to jump to her death. He tries to stop her but the woman apparently was angry at him and wanted him to see her die...and she jumps. Soon after, the remains of a dead prostitute wash up and Czonka tries to join the Homicide squad, as he's sick of working vice...and they ask him to snoop around and IF he finds something PERHAPS he can change departments. So, Czonka adopts his street persona, Pimp CZ Smith and goes undercover. Soon, another prostitute ends up dead..another red-head. Can Czonka stop this maniac AND can he get out of vice...as he's just had enough.

This is yet another excellent episode of "Police Story". I appreciate that although it was made in the 1970s, the pimps you see in the show are NOT giant walking Huggy Bear wannabes but are more realistic. Worth your time.

Cop routine but more interesting than ever.

Jim Farentino finds the same character he already had in the John Badham's pilot, made one year earlier. He has to deal with homicidal vice related issues again, after prostitution and pimps, he has to nail a women's murderer. The opening scene, with the poor woman who throws herself from the balcony, is impressive. And the scheme to ask a criminal help to catch an ever more dangerous criminal is not so foreseeable, although used before. No length in this story which is maybe too short; it would have been better in a movie, TV or cinema. Well, it's certainly not the best ever of the series, but don't hesitate to see it if you can.
