A classic 'Fools'
studioAT29 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the most memorable and best loved episodes of 'Only Fools' as it is able to show all the qualities that made the show so good. It's very funny in places, and also very sad, and that's a testament to the writing of John Sullivan, whose script is so beautifully crafted.

There's so much fun to be found in the scenes involving the Driscoll Bopthers in the pub, as well as the church ceremony where we hear what Rodney's middle name is.

However, the scene that is the most iconic in this episode is where Del is left alone at the wedding reception as Rodney leaves for his new life. It is played out beautifully by Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst.

If you want to see an example of 'Fool's at its best, look no further.

Brotherly Love.

It's all change from here on, this is a magical series finale, it's hilarious and heart breaking in equal measure. I'll deal with thr latter thought, you really see the sheer love Del feels for his brother, sacrificing almost everything for him, it is an incredibly touching episode, don't be shocked if you tear up at the end, Simply Red's Holding back the years was played to perfection, whenever I hear it, I think of Del stood alone.

The laughs are thick and fast, the wedding, the mobile phones, and of course the hilarious hiding upstairs scene.

Amazingly The Driscolls appear only here, we'd have to wait until The Green Green Grass to see them again.

You always associate Roy Marsden with straight drama, his appearance here is outstanding, he is hilarious, absolute comedy gold.

The perfect series of one of the best comedies of all time ends with a perfect episode, a mix of sad and funny, it is flawless, 10/10.

You Don't Live Here No More!!

The only time we see the Driscoll Brothers on screen; Rodney 'Charlton' Trotter getting married; and generally just a great old time. Fantastic stuff!

Hard to believe it can get better than this but the next episode: the 1989 Christmas special, elevates Only Fools and Horses to legendary status.

Little Problems is one of six or seven episodes vying for second place.

Warning: Spoilers
"That knocks all the rumours on the head" says Trigger on hearing Boycie's news, that his misses Marlene is finally up the duff.

Del Boy has done another blinding deal with rival local wide boys, Jevon and Mickey Pearce for "State of the Art" mobiles. That resemble house bricks and double as TV remotes, Derek of course has no notion of where the lads actually sourced their merchandise.

Has young Rodney actually passed his Computer Diploma Course or did he "Naunce it up"?

Dave is looking forward to his pending nuptials with Cassandra, and the proposal of working for his father in laws printing firm.

Derek and Alan chat over their offsprings Wedding Reception, Del agreed with Alan's misses preference for Cricket Pavilions.

While Alan has a hankering for the good old days, of an oil fashioned knees up and jellied eels.

Cassey and Dave are also looking forwards to their first pad together with her putting up £4Grand, between the savings and her parents wedding present.

Young Rodney is desperate for where he is going to locate, the balance of £2Grand for the properties deposit.

But did he really have any cause for concern? Surely he can rely on the promise made, from the ever reliable big brother Derek?

Has Del ever let him or anyone else down, especially in their hour hour of need? He is surely not going to break the habit of a lifetime, not on the eve of his little brothers big day.

Nags Head Publican Mike is made up when Cassandra's dad, Alan books the pubs main room for the Wedding Reception.

But will Alan's marriage to Pamela hope to survive, the ignominy of using such a low dive? And can Alan's constitution really cope with the new diet, of ale and a surfeit of jellied eels?

And can Dave actually be expected to remember, where he lives after he returns from the honeymoon?

My Most Watched Episode

This is the episode I often come back to. Bittersweet, packed with the perfect balance of laughs and tears. By this stage the characters and their connections are well established. Seeing Rodney show appreciation for his brother and the levels Del will go to for Rodney just really warms your heart. Uncle Albert mixing into this episode rather perfectly and this might be the first time we've seen Denzil and Del hang out without Denzil being stressed out by him.

There's some great laughs with Rodney's middle name, the Driscoll Brothers and the comedian etc. And Cassandra's father. There's just some really clever writing all around in this one. The music that plays as Rodney leaves for his honeymoon is just perfect and David Jason's acting in this particular episode is superb. Lovely.
