Have a Franny Nanny Christmas!
mark.waltz24 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
For Fran's first Christmas with the Sheffield's, she overextends herself on gifts for the kids and ends up in debt. Thinking that she's going to get a bonus from Maxwell, Fran is disappointed when she gets just a valuable vase from him. It's up to Niles to make everything right for her since Maxwell and C.C. who are on their way to Washington DC for a benefit. This is probably the first time that a Jewish character on a sitcom ended up in confession in a Catholic Church, obviously a tribute to Barbra Streisand's "Funny Girl" line "Would a convent take a Jewish girl?" It's a sweet episode that crosses religious lines and really expresses the joy of the holiday season, although it's not a happy one for Ms. C.C.

Classic TV Xmas Countdown Episode #54
kgraovac20 December 2023
Fran regrets extolling the virtues of hand-picked gifts when Mr. Sheffield gives her a vase for Xmas instead of the cash bonus she was hoping would help with her Xmas shopping.

This is from THE NANNY's first season when the show and its' premise were still fresh and funny. The opening scene contains a joke about circumcision which lets us know we're in the '90s now as such a line would not have been heard on a network sitcom the previous decade. Later, in the pawn shop scene, there is an Elizabeth Montgomery reference. In real life, Fran Drescher was a big BEWITCHED/Classic Tv fan.

One of the better '90s Xmas offerings with an ending that's funny and a little cheeky (once you've seen it you'll get the pun). 6/10.
