The Everett children are among those enjoying the exclusive kids only Oak Steek Club House in a tree in front of the home of elderly Mrs. Kaufman (Ellen Corby- "The Waltons", "The Andy Griffith Show") who is happy to have found a purpose. Two men from city government arrived to take measurements saying they are going to cut the tree down. Professor Everett calls to find they are widening Oak Street ten feet. The oldest boy Hal (David Doremus) is convinced to protest after seeing his father support such actions in an interview. He along with his brother Butch (Trent Lehman) and sister Prudence (Kim Richards) gather a petition and Nanny (Juliet Mills) takes them to City Hall where they are given the run around. Nanny's intuition leads her to Commissioner Abercrombie, Board of Public Works (character actor Henry Jones). He is sympathetic with their cause, but cannot do do anything since it involves a vote from the city council and the tree is scheduled to come down the next day. When they arrive the next day with an unforgettably giant power saw, they find the tree full of protesters. Can a compromise be reached? A nice plot-driven episode mainly devoid of laughs.
