The Lady and the Gorilla
sol-kay5 August 2013
****SPOILERS**** Actor Anthony Franciosa goes completely ape sh*t in this stranger then strange "Naked City" episode as BoBo Ba Boom also known as the Gorilla who takes a monkey shine for pretty office clerk Rita Rakahowski, Carol Eve Rossen, at his place of employment on the Brooklyn waterfront. It's the new boss at the packing wear-house Mr. Buberone, Nehemiah Persoff, who's also taken a shine to Rita which drives poor BoBo or Gorilla totally wild with jungle or monkey passion. Passion enough to make Buberone's job at the wear-house as miserable as possible. Swinging from the rafters like they were jungle vines BoBo gets so out of control that Buberone fires him and orders the hot in the pants, for Rita, gorilla man to leave the premises at once. This leads to a job action by BoBo or the Gorilla's fellow workers who feel that without him and his expertise in throwing things all over the place and in the right places the work there would never be done.

It's really Rita that the hot monkey blooded BoBo has his eyes on who in fact is strangely turned on by his wild animal-like magnetism just like Stella was by that brute and hunk of a man Stanley Kowalski in "A Streetcar Named Desire". But it's the BoBo the Gorilla's love sick boss, a survivor of some half a dozen marriages and failed affairs, Buberone who's out to get her to marry him and take Rita back with him to his Florida condo that has a state of the art stereo system, for the two to hear beautiful music together, and away from the rat race in NYC. With the an enraged BoBo not giving an inch and refusing to leave the wear-house that he made himself at home together with his pet rat Izzy. It's now up to the NYPD to put an ends to all this monkey business before it gets out of hand and somebody really gets hurt.

***SPOILERS*** It's later that Buberone flips out and himself goes ape and after BoBo in his hiding place in the were-house where he has Rita, who's now gone completely crazy about him, more then willing to stay with and the stack of bananas that he brought her for a wedding present. With a now love crazed and out of control Buberone out to gun BoBo down and the police unable to stop him he storms his hiding place and with BoBo throwing stacks of folded cardboard boxes on him in a wild shootout guns the wild and crazy Gorilla Man down. That's not after also mistakenly gunning down the love of his life Rita Rakahowski as well in all the confusion. This crazy and unforgettable Naked City episode ends with a dying Rita in Buberone arms as a what looks like a fatally wounded BoBo Ba Boom aka the Gorilla walking down to the base of the Manhattan Bridge together with his pet Izzy the Rat and collapses there.

Terrible

Despite a strong line-up of guest stars, shockingly bad writing sinks this episode, making it unwatchable. Perhaps it was time to end the series when this ridiculous script hit the airwaves.

The most unlikable characters assembled in one place.

Not a single character in this episode is even remotely likeable. Even the cops are beyond stupid and pathetic. Who writes garbage like this?

This is the worst show in the entire run of Naked City
FloridaFred8 January 2023
What kind of nonsense is this? A guy waves a handgun in the face of a NYPD cop and he is told to put the gun back in the desk? Another guy threatens NYPD police officers with physical violence and they just shy away, and the criminal runs off?

The writers and the producers were trying to be funny? Or dramatic? Or what? Nothing here works. The Police take a back seat to a clown-show of guest stars, NONE of whom are entertaining.

This show was approaching its end. Maybe the writers thought this would never make it to Live Television, so they intentionally goofed it up.

One Star, only because I cannot give ZERO stars!

This is TERRIBLE. Your finger will be on the fast-forward button, trying to blow past this nonsense. Do not waste your time!

This is not NYPD

More a portrayal of modern-day Keystone Cops. Absurd script, ridiculous plot, over-the-top performances by Anthony Franciosa and the typically loud-mouthed Nehemiah Persoff. "There are 8 million stories in the Naked City, this has (not) been one of them."
