This episode is quite important in the series as it was the first one to be featured on the SciFi Channel. No, I'm not going to give it that stupid spelling it shouldn't have. Crow's got a new voice actor and everything's pretty new. The series was originally going to end after Season 7, but they decided to continue it for three more seasons. Even crazier, they're actually planning on reviving this AGAIN after SEVENTEEN YEARS. Pearl Forrester doesn't appear until the very end of the episode. She mentions having killed the reborn Dr. Forrester and now she wants to avenge him...even though she killed him. I'm surprised Mike and the bots didn't comment on this.
I was afraid that there wouldn't be anything out of the theater related to the actual movie, because there was probably more plot exposition than in any other episode in the whole series. They actually did use this part with a cephalopod named Phil. That was at least appropriate for their movie. It's weird how this episode debuted the theme song. It tells you exactly what's going to happen in later episodes! This was one of the few movies I had heard about before becoming a fan of the show.
I admit to not seeing the original "Creature From The Black Lagoon" movie. It doesn't seem that noteworthy anyway. We still got tons of great lines like "But I'm handsome!" and the parts with the chimpanzee are great. I feel bad for not remembering the exact riffs they used, but that's okay. For me to try to remember a lot of this would make me lose my mind. Do love that line about Clint Eastwood never going on to be famous. It's still the same greatness of the show, just in a different format. ***1/2
