Arthur Rises
Accountant gets out on parole and goes back to the boss he covered for, looking for a promised payoff. When he doesn't get the cash, he hatches a plan to intimidate the boss's son.

Enter Arthur (friends with the kid's mom) and of course Terence McCann to mind the kid.

The first half of the episode is a bit of a slow build and I'm thinking, this is pretty straightforward drama. But then old accountant Alfie Bass enters the picture, the intimidation game is foiled, better plans get hatched and we are off to the races.

Second half of the episode is peak Minder, with George Cole getting to deliver some very funny lines, Terry getting into a punch-up, and Dave in great support at The Winchester.

The plot resolution is clever and funny. And the epilogue even better.

Minder is hitting on all cylinders at this point.

Another fine episode from the golden era of Minder. Terry has to mind the targeted teenage son of a shady millionaire businessman who has dodged out of paying an ex employee who did time for him. Great script and some fine scenes with Terry involved in some good fisticuffs and some brilliant scenes with the ever devious Arthur. Nice Winchester club scenes throughout this which was what made the series great in the early years. A good story and one that shows both Terry and Arthur in a rare good light with good support from Alfie Bass as a Winchester club based book keeper and Gareth Hunt as the nasty father . Well worth a viewing

Alex Rowan is an accountant who did time for his boss, a shady businessman Ted Standen.

Now out of prison, Rowan calls on Ted but finds out that the promises to look after him were lies. Rowan wants to avenge this and targets Ted's teenage son John.

Ted loves money and hates to part with it. Divorced from his wife, he does not pay alimony to his ex wife or cares too much about his son. Terry is hired as a minder for John when he gets beaten up by some lads who he thought were from a nearby school.

When Arthur is warned to get Terry off the job, he lies about Terry having a heart condition.

Arthur and Rowan join forces when Arthur finds out how Rowan was treated by Ted. It does mean Arthur has to pretend to be an accountant as John turned 18 and is entitled to the trust fund his father set up.

There is a nice relationship developed between Terry and John as he teaches the lad how to defend himself. It makes a change from Terry bedding some random woman. Another episode that balances drama and comedy.

Alfie Bass provides the comedy as Arthur's accountant who gives Arthur some tips. Gareth Hunt is the slimy villain. There should had been a nice fight between Ted's henchman played by Christopher Ellison and Terry but the henchman backs off as he remembers Terry's time as a boxer.
