A Much Higher Spiritual Battle

Warning: Spoilers
Rodney Eastman (From the X-Files Episode "Invocation") is a mysterious Kid who Black sees killing a Lawyer "Alistaire Pepper" (Richard Cox who was in the Star Trek: Next Gen episode "The High Ground"). The Odd thing, is that first we see, what everyone sees: The Kid shooting Pepper. But Black didn't see it that way.

A few days earlier...

In The Aftermath of "Blech's" (Bill Smitrovich) death, Black really does not want to work. Under both Catherine's and Jordan's urging, he goes to check out a crime scene that has every Black-Magic gimmick in sight, all laid out like it's Christmas Morning- The Pentagram, the black candles, the whole schmeer. Frank realises it looks too contrived, like this was done just to get Black's involvement. Watts (Before he or the MillenniuM Group has gone bad) notices the "Kid" standing outside the window - Upon investigation, realises that the Kid must have been floating in the Air, because they are on the 2nd Story of the building. Later the same kid shows up in a photograph. But nobody else has seen him otherwise.

Then, all too conveniently, another, balder Kid kills a woman in a park and it appears like he was the one "who dunit." A creepy lawyer, Pepper played by Cox, who has never defended a criminal case before, is assigned. But he really wants to talk to Black, about working for him - Lays out the Temptation-Bucket in front of Black who won't consider it.

There is something just too slimy and fishy about the guy - Who even visits Catherine while Black is not at home, and even she could feel the bad vibe.

As this excellent episode unfolds, all of the contrivances are stripped away - The suspect somehow gets a razor and commits Neck-Hari-Kari... Which is odd, because he is killed by a Hemorrhage in his Brain, not the cut across his neck, which was superficial.

Franks Friend, who had gotten Frank the gig with The MillenniuM Group, Mike Atkins (Robin Gammell)- Is lured into the case, by a fake phone call from "Frank" - But why? Needless to say, this is Mike's last Case.

Because "Mike" calls both Watts and Frank from his Hotel Room- As they break down his hotel room door they find Mike with neck cut and a shadow figure flying down the fire escape.

The Assailant initially appears to be the mysterious Floating Kid - But as Frank gives chase, he sees visions of Pepper and Lucy Butler, eventually led out to a parking lot, Frank witnesses the Confrontation between Pepper and "The Kid" (Who names himself Sammael) - Frank sees the Kid strike Pepper down with a Bolt of Lightning, while everyone else sees a Sammael using a Gun.

What has Frank witnessed? I love this episode, I felt Frank was seeing a showdown between angels. There is no doubt that Sammael has Killed Pepper - But who or what was Pepper? Another version of Butler? This episode was pure misdirection, leading up to the confrontation between Powers in the Parking Lot. And it is a belief of mine, that if any of us would witness similar events, it would appear as Mundane events to us. We're just not ready, as people, to accept seeing such things as Angels having a "Duel in the Sun" in Parking Lots.

Frank takes an interest in the Kid Sammael, whose response to Franks almost asking for permission to talk to him again, says simply "You don't know how hard it is for me to be here" - Which asks the question, was this "Kid" of even higher importance than what we are shown? What other religious figure took Human Form under great pains of Duress?

Should have been nominated for best writing.

One of the reasons why Millennium is a great series is because of episodes like this. The writing is excellent and the dialogue between Frank Black, Peter Watts, Mike Atkins and Al Pepper is top notch.

Needs clarification, to be engaging.

Warning: Spoilers
Powers, Principalities, Thrones and Dominions continues on from last episode, my guess is the evil presence's using and manipulating humans to get at Frank. Who or what kills it, if that's the end of it, I don't know. Will likely have some explanation in the following episodes, but that's no good on a first watch.

What is happening? Why paranormal things?

What is happening? Why paranormal things?

That samuel said "uriel raziel samuel", when i searched i saw those are angels according to jewish beliefs. So, he was a good angel. Frank also understood he is good and wanted to speak in future.

I remember him from previous episode, where he was in ladders. But why could not he stop bob's killing? Why did he kill lawyer (who was probably taken by evil) in front of everyone and in front of frank, to give hope again?

So, we cant know if lucy was the evil or lawyer was the leader evil.

I only watched season 1-2 of x-files but samuel was also there according to searchings of mine. But in x-files, there were not such good-bad fights. There were no angels as i remembered.

And biggest wonder is why it is all around frank, why did evil try to give pain to frank, offered job? We will learn i hope one day.
