A dandy mystery

Warning: Spoilers
Helen Wheeler has returned home a day early from a vacation to NYC. Phoning home and getting no answer, she goes to her husband's office. He's not there and her husband's nephew takes her home. Upon arriving, they find her husband dead from a gunshot wound. Instead of calling the police, she calls her friend Lucy Hamilton who then calls Mike Shayne. They tell him they didn't call the police because they also found two airline tickets to Paris and a packed suitcase. They tell Shayne that's there no way Helen's husband would be running off with another woman. Shayne pockets the airline tickets and tells them to call the police after he leaves but don't tell them he had been there (talk about tampering with evidence!). Wheeler had two partners in the publishing business, one of whom is a playboy. The partners tell Shayne that $200,000 has been embezzled from the firm and they think Wheeler did it. Mike isn't so sure and keeps looking for Wheeler's supposed girlfriend. Denning makes a personable Shayne and this episode has a strong supporting cast especially Kent Smith, Lori March and Phillip Carey. The Shayne series was a fun to watch, well plotted series and this episode is no exception.
