The Infamous Off-Camera Incident We Didn't See
kgraovac6 November 2023
Lucy's bought a "slinky" leopard coat but needs $ to pay for it, so she purposely makes her refrigerator go on the blink in hopes Mooney will advance her the cash. He gets wise to the ruse and when he suggests she get a job, circumstances have her becoming a stuntman on neighbor Joan's latest movie set.

This is the second - and last - appearance of Joan Blondell as neighbor Joan Brenner. To say things did not work out is an understatement. As soon as the director yelled CUT!, Blondell cussed Lucy out in front of the shocked audience and crew and walked off, never to return.

The first half of this episode is more entertaining than the last. The highlight is when Mooney models the fur coat with burlesque music blaring in the background. Also, Lucy's crying jag here sounds oddly childlike and unique compared to every other time she does it. Mooney has a great line about the coat: "You are making more of a fuss giving up that fur than the leopard did!".

I always disliked the Lucy-in-drag episodes where her put-on male voice makes her sound mentally challenged. Here she employs a more natural-sounding male voice for her Ironman Carmichael persona. Also, episodes that have Lucy being unnecessarily destructive are never that amusing.

Lou Krugman is back playing the director. Just two episodes ago he was Lucy's boss at the record company.
