When the gals mock Lucy's cooking abilities, she decides to show them up by entering the annual pie-baking contest and dethrone reigning Queen Vivian.
In a season with way too many clunkers, at least this one -- though not excellent -- is above the baseline.
It's nice when the girls feel bad about ribbing Lucy and wish she could be the winner.
Mary Jane Croft looks better in this episode than she ever has or will. She will not appear again until Season 4 when we get to the California era and she plays a new character/neighbor of Lucy's.
The pie-in-the-face ending for Mr. Mooney seems old-hat when watching this now, but at the time, it had not been overused.
