Finding the spirit world.... obviously with the help of alcoholic spirits.

Warning: Spoilers
The writers of the series were realizing as the first season began to wrap up that campy was the way to go, elements in previous episodes, by this time, there was no turning back. Smith wants to create a Ouija board, allegedly to contact dead relatives, she contacts something else, creating danger for the Robinson family and himself, and that's after Dr. Robinson nearly dies from inhaling poisonous gas in the opening scene, the cliffhanger from the previous episode quickly wrapped up. There are great moments with June Lockhart and Mark Goddard snickering at Jonathan Harris's antics, knowing that the show would go into immortality even though they were being upstaged. Young Liza lookalike Angela Cartwright gets good material as she joins Smith on his supernatural journey.

While Smith does not contact his uncle Thaddeus, you can see what he is bringing up while Penny and Dr. Smith are tinkering with the Ouija board, and it looks to be a silly looking plant monster that all of a sudden flies away. But the show makes you keep guessing as to what Smith has conjured up. For those of us who know the show from our childhood and the later color episodes, the series seems to be crying for them now, and of course that will make the show all the sillier and more memorable. Once again, it's count the lines for Marta Kristen, and it's always amazing when she goes above one hand, or says anything that only her character would say. Some really neat set pieces and good effects when Don and John are attacked by the invisible monster, all the while having a robot briefly turned into a radio for another seance.

Creepy Stuff

Smith attempts to contact his Uncle Thaddeus in a séance...then an invisible creature appears.

The story is so confusing I am not really sure what to make of this episode?? Adding to this, Smith is a total pain during the whole hour.

But as I said in my opening LIS review, nearly every LIS episode has a good moment or two that makes the whole hour worthwhile...Ghost In Space is no exception to that rule.

That bit where Smith walks out of the Jupiter 2 and is almost killed by a flying rock is without question one of LIS's darkest moments. The wonderful B&W footage of the creature appearing and disappearing is also well done.

Ghost In Space might not make much sense to me but some creepy B&W images - always at night - make it well worth watching.

Lost in Space at its best

Warning: Spoilers
I have fond memories of this masterpiece of campy sci-fi horror thrilling me and my brothers as children. It is truly entertaining to see the occult mixed with sci-fi as depicted in this episode as we see another side of Dr. Smith- dabbler in the occult. It is not very realistic but it is very entertaining.

Excellent Si-Fi Horror that gets a little off track
bigfrankie-434646 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ghost in Space is an excellent Si-Fi horror episode that gets a little off track at times.

Dr. Smith, as usual, is the root cause of trouble. This time by throwing some explosives into a bog. The result is an eerie invisible bog monster that terrorizes at night.

Dr. Smith, for reasons unknown, set-up some type of Ouija board and becomes obsessed with the idea that the trouble is the vengeful spirit of his deceased Uncle Thaddeus. Prof and Mrs. Robinson allow the children to participate in Dr. Smith's Ouija Board non-sense, which sure seems out of character.

The ability of the bog monster also shifts from a brute to magical-type precision tricks.

That said, the Si-Fi horror aspect of the bog and the invisible bog monster and foot prints are great. It more that makes up for the off track issues.

Typical nonsensical 'Smith dominated' episode
jamesrupert201416 June 2022
Something invisible is plaguing the crew of the Jupiter 2 at night and Dr. Smith becomes obsessed with the idea that it is the vengeful spirit of his deceased Uncle Thaddeus, with whom he frequently communes. This is one of those episodes where things just happen as the 'plot' demands with little logic or internal consistency. Dr. Smith suddenly becomes a spiritualist and the spaceship seems to have all the accoutrements needed for 19th century séance. Once again Penny comes across as a credulous child (while younger brother Will gets to be a precocious genius) and Maureen's primary duties seem to be as a seamstress (when she can take time from cooking and cleaning). The obligatory monster is pretty good but can't rescue a generally silly 'Smith-centered' episode.
