In this episode we learn that Scam-a-tam is the Indian word for school teacher. The white and Indians have bet money on a quarter horse race featuring an indian horse against the white men's prized steed. The scam-a tam Mark Allen is entrusted with the bets, but he gets held up by a masked outlaw. Allen is already mocked by the whites as a coward because he doesn't carry a gun. It's up to the Ranger and Tonto to recover the money and to find out why the sheriff is such a hostile character. Mark Allen's devoted girlfriend Hazel Halliday is played by May Morgan. She bore an uncanny resemblance to Gail Davis. And May only had three acting credits during her career. The first was as a baby in the 1924 silent film, The Flood. Then came this Lone Ranger episode in 1956, followed by an appearance on Judge Roy Bean. Not much information on her.
