James "Grizzly" Adams(Dan Haggerty) comes to the aid of an old settler named Metcalf(played by Jack Krushen) and his daughter Deborah(played by Margaret Willock) after their wagon gets stuck in the muddy river, and Metcalf breaks his leg after it falls on him trying to free it. Both of them stay at Adams' cabin, where Metcalf seems to be an overly pious ingrate, though Deborah comes to care for a hawk that is recovering from injury, and also yearns to be free soon, causing Deborah sorrow, but both she and her father will realize the importance of being free, whether you are animal or human... Moving episode has a most touching and poignant ending, and contains an important message about freedom & choice.
