The boys are planning to spend Saturday at the Firehouse helping Pete polish the fire engine. Ward and June are planning on going to a wedding. Herb and Janet Wilson will be driving the Cleavers so everything seems to be fine.
Ward and June are ready to go but there is a problem: the Wilsons have their daughter with them. Their plan is to leave her with Beaver and Wally as babysitters. Ward has frequently boasted that his boys are mature and trustworthy. Somehow this translated to Herb as they are qualified babysitters.
Helen is put into her portable crib but she isn't happy which makes it tough for the boys. Helen, "Puddin" keeps saying she wants to see Mary Jane. The boys try giving her everything they can but no success. Fortunately, June calls and is able to get the answer from Mrs. Wilson: Mary Jane is the bathroom.
Now we have a real problem. Puddin has locked herself in the bathroom and is making a mess. She's throwing all the glass bottles into the tub. And she's covering the door knob in tooth paste. The boys aren't panicking yet, but they need to do something and quickly.
The boys try using a ladder to get up to the second-floor window but they can't' get in through the window. They can see the sink is full of water and is overflowing. Bengie, who is in kindergarten and lives next door, asks what the boys are doing. The boys think they might get Bengie in the window and have him open the door. They get him in but the door knob comes off in his hand. Now they have two kids in the bathroom.
Wally finally gets a good idea. He calls Pete the Firemen to see if he and the fire department can get the kids out. The kids are out. Apparently, the boys cleaned everything up because their parents haven't said anything. During dinner the next day, Ward mentions Mrs. Wilson was so happy with Beaver and Wally that she would like them to babysit again. The boys aren't interested. Especially if the Wilsons have bathrooms.
Turns out one of the neighbors told Ward what happened. Ward is proud of his sons for showing just how clever they really are. Wally figures Ward and June know what happened but aren't saying anything which he takes as a good sign. When June asks Ward if he is going to say anything, he says no. When he was a boy he was the happiest if something happened but his parents just let it go.
