Larry's former stand-up comedy partner Stan Paxton (superbly played to the smarmy hilt by Eric Bogosian) shows up out of the blue and immediately proves to be a pain in the neck for both Larry (Garry Shandling, perfectly fidgety as ever) and various staff members.
This episode astutely shows how parasites with floundering careers opportunistically glom onto more successful celebrities as a means of achieving success that they can't get on their own. Moreover, this episode further makes a poignant point on how alcoholism can seriously undermine someone's talent and potential. Bogosian totally nails the raw desperation of his sycophantic character. Moreover, it's a hoot to watch Hank (the always excellent Jeffrey Tambor) suck up to Stan while Arthur (a marvelously crusty Rip Torn) takes an instant disliking to the guy. A superior show.
